A Memorable Culinary Experience at PhiLac – London’s Hidden Gem
Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting PhiLac, a cozy Chinese restaurant tucked away on Evelyn Street in London. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by a sense of warmth and simplicity that instantly made me feel at home. The exterior may seem modest, but don’t be fooled—inside, it’s a clean and welcoming space that combines the charm of traditional Chinese decor with a hint of modern flair.
The dish I ordered was nothing short of a delight. As you can see in the photo, I opted for a classic bowl of wonton noodles with slices of char siu (roast pork). The presentation was impeccable, with the vibrant colors of the fresh ingredients drawing me in. Every bite of the tender wontons, paired with the savory, well-seasoned broth, was pure comfort food at its finest. The noodles were perfectly cooked, retaining that slight chewiness that adds texture to the overall dish.
The roast pork, with its sweet and smoky glaze, was sliced generously and complemented the subtle flavors of the soup. The vegetables added a fresh crunch, balancing the rich flavors of the char siu and wontons. I could tell the ingredients were of high quality, which is often a sign of a restaurant that truly cares about the food they serve.
One of the things that stood out to me was the balance of flavors. The broth was neither too salty nor too bland—it was just right, with a depth of flavor that made me want to savor every spoonful. The wontons, delicate yet packed with flavorful filling, melted in my mouth. It’s clear that a lot of thought and care goes into the preparation of each dish at PhiLac.
Aside from the food, the service at PhiLac was top-notch. The staff was friendly and attentive, making sure I had everything I needed without being intrusive. They were more than happy to answer my questions about the menu and even offered suggestions based on my preferences. It’s always a good sign when a restaurant has staff who are not only knowledgeable but also passionate about the food they serve.
The prices were also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the portion sizes. For a dish that was as hearty and satisfying as the wonton noodles, I found it to be excellent value for money. It’s rare to find a place in London where you can get such an authentic, filling meal at such an affordable price, but PhiLac delivers on all fronts.
The atmosphere inside the restaurant was peaceful, making it an ideal spot for a relaxed meal with friends or family. Despite being in a busy part of town, PhiLac offers a quiet retreat where you can enjoy your food without feeling rushed. It’s the kind of place where you can linger over your meal, soaking in the flavors and the ambiance.
Overall, my experience at PhiLac was one that I won’t soon forget. It’s not often that you come across a restaurant that gets everything right—from the food to the service to the atmosphere—but PhiLac does just that. Whether you’re a fan of Chinese cuisine or simply looking to try something new, I highly recommend paying a visit to this hidden gem in London. You won’t be disappointed.
If you’re ever in the area and craving a bowl of comforting wonton noodles, do yourself a favor and stop by PhiLac. It’s a place where good food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere come together to create an unforgettable dining experience. I’ll certainly be returning soon to explore more...
Read moreTried ordering PhiLac today despite many awful reviews, I gave it a second chance and I was massively disappointed! The phone rang continuously for nearly five minutes, as I was about to hang up, a very grumpy young man answered and put me on hold. When he came back to me, he barked that he could not hear me so I raised my voice and made sure I was speaking close to my phone, and he hung up on me. How disgusting! I called back to ask if he hung up and he responded with ‘Yes, I could not hear you’ in a very moody tone. Then he proceeded to tell me that there would be a 2 hour delay for delivery. What kind of company is this? Disgraceful behaviour! If it was my first time ordering, I would have thought that PhiLac was a new company. #BringbacktheoldPhiLac...
Read moreUsually they’re so good but I don’t know if they were in a rush the special fried rice tasted absolutely bland, thank God I had sweet and sour chicken. It tasted like there was no seasoning or salt at all. Really disappointed as I always tell people about this place. It’s beginning to become a hit or miss, you never know if youre going to get good or bad food. UPDATE: so I’ve gone back to give the food back aa it’s just not edible and they’ve definitely lost a customer. The owner or whoever he is can be heard in the back saying “next time she should go somewhere else” or “she should ask for more salt next time”. Who has to do that when ordering food? The girl at the front was very understanding but I don’t know for that man at the back, seems to always be...
