Unfortunately, Pizza Express left me with a terrible impression. It was a Saturday, and I simply wanted to enjoy a nice dinner. Instead, I ended up paying £22 for an awful experience, feeling like I just threw my money in the trash.
First of all, the quality of the food was unacceptable. The chicken wings were not “Buffalo” at all, as the waitress told me is going to order for me — they were just oven-baked chicken legs made from extremely low-quality meat, with some Tabasco sauce poured on top. They were too soft like a jelly. It was awful. The salad was okay, but I found rotten or expired cherry tomatoes in it. I was also given sparkling water with ice and lemon already in the glass, without anyone asking me if I even wanted lemon or ice. I have high stomach acidity and cannot consume anything sour like lemons — this was completely inconsiderate.
The service at the entrance was especially disappointing and terrifying. As soon as I walked in, the black girl didn’t even greet me — she just asked, “Are you a delivery?” I said no, I came in to eat. She pointed me to two uncomfortable tables near the entrance, even though I asked to sit somewhere more private or by the wall. She didn’t bother to check if other seats were available, spoke with hesitation, and showed zero willingness to help. It felt like she didn’t want to deal with me at all.
I ended up complaining to another staff member, saying that this girl was doing nothing to help and basically left me with the option to either sit at the entrance or leave. He said, “No, you can sit over there or in another hall,” meaning there were options — she just didn’t want to offer them.
Then, this same girl led me to a dirty table, where forks were scattered, and there was something lying on one of the chairs. Despite many clean and ready tables around, she chose that one for me. She awkwardly started gathering the cutlery, and the whole setup was messy, sloppy, and unwelcoming. I honestly felt like I had walked into some kind of back alley diner, not a restaurant. It was shocking.
Only later did a different waiter approach — a polite and professional man who replaced my glass, brought me everything I needed, and checked if I was okay. He was the only positive part of this visit.
Bottom line: I absolutely do not recommend this place. Maybe their pizza is good — I didn’t try it — but everything else, especially the service and atmosphere, was a disaster. I left feeling like I had just visited some careless, low-effort food joint rather than a place that values...
Read moreI come for a family meal for a birthday, our waiter was outstanding and couldn’t do enough for us unfortunately i didn’t catch his name but he know who he is he really helped my family out and myself unfortunately Roxanne (the assistant manager I believe) was awful rude customer care was not there at all and as we were seated near the delivery window (that was permanently left open) we requested 3 times that after the delivery men were gone if she could shut the window each time we was told yes and to take a seat but Roxanne was leaving it wide open and walking off for a long time talking to staff.
I am a manager in a fast paced restaurant so I understand deliveries can me hectic and a busy restaurant can be overwhelming but I always take our paying and seated customers feeling and comfort in to consideration and after speaking to her yet again she was rather rude and once asked for her name (after she was rude to my dad) then looked at me with a rather rude look shouted her name and went on to talk to staff about irrelevant things not about work there were many people complaining and eating dinner with their coats on however when there were no drivers there for a solid 35 minutes Roxanne didn’t seem to care our customer care was not there what so ever she was rather disappointing. Pizza express should really give proper training and review their management as the gentleman who was serving us was polite and even agreed with us on this situation.
I just want to confirm I hate leaving negative feedback as I understand a fast paced busy environment but customer service was awful from the manager and the lovely man would do a much better...

After waiting 5-10 minutes to be seated, it was a further 30 minutes before anyone returned to our table.
Almost 50 minutes after entering the restaurant, we received our starters, which were cold.
1 year later, we received our mains. After requesting chilli oil and pepper, the waitress proceeded to vanish into thin air, and the only sightings of her from then on was when she was walking around the back of the restaurant, trying to figure out how to use the till or moving dirty dishes from one table to another.
The toppings on my brother’s pizza were incorrect, despite the waitress coming back to our table to confirm the order twice. However, we were unable to bring this to anyone’s attention as no one returned to our table.
Throughout the evening, I witnessed numerous groups turn up, stand at the entrance for 10 minutes, and eventually leave after being ignored by the staff.
The unlucky ones were seated. The table next to me requested to move seats away from the window as it was cold, but they were told this wasn’t possible as the tables were all dirty.
About 50% of the tables had not been cleaned. Occasionally, dirty dishes were moved from one table to another, but never taken back to the kitchen.
The staff looked like they had just come straight to work after a 48 hour bender.
I was unsure who to voice my complaint to as the waitress serving me (who was also the manager), had vanished.
Even paying the bill took exceptionally long. The only way I got them to take my money was by standing up, putting on my coat and...
