PizzaExpress — Restaurant in London

Myself and a friend decided to have a midweek dinner at pizza express (04/05/2022), what a mistake that was.

We arrived and were greeted with a monotone voice and the most disinterested looking manager I think I’ve ever seen. We told the man how we had a booking and the booking list wasn’t looked at once, we were asked how many we were and were then seated in an area that was completely empty. The manager seemed to be the only person covering this area and every time we wanted to order or needed something we had to practically get up and walk to the kitchen to get his attention while he was on the phone. He was walking around there empty area we were in but never making eye contact or was on the phone seemingly avoiding us. We eventually flagged him down and he sent someone over to serve us, they were friendly enough but the food came out very slowly and in a strange order, some things were forgotten about and they had to be prompted for them. We got one drink and then 15-20 mins later we had to ask where the second was, which then came instantly. Nothing was cleared from our table when we were done, we were given the wrong sauce when we asked for it, it was generally a pretty miserable experience from a table service perspective and they could do with making sure the management team are well versed in the things they’re managing others about.

As we left nobody said goodbye, we just walked out and that was that. This is more than likely the last time we visit...

Had dinner there last night with two friends, the staff were very pleasant and the food good but the service swung between rushed to none. Ordered the drinks, starters and main, the chef made a Buchetta al fungi for one of the party which wasn't on the menu, 5* for that, it arrived after about 15 mins but before we were served our drinks. While one of the party was still eating their starter the main pizzas arrived with the waitress asking if it was ok to put all the pizzas on the table, which was ok for two of us but not for the the person still eating. Starters finished and all mains served, we ate our pizzas which were excellent :) but that's where the serviced stopped, after finishing eating we waited for about 40 min for the waitress to come over and ask us if we wanted desert or coffee or if asked earlier, we would have had another drink. To show how slow the service was the tablet of two next to us walked out of the restaurant after having a drink each and starter and refused to pay. It's a shame the food is good and the staff are friendly but there is a lack of service, they had 3 waiting staff on, which seem about right for the size of the restaurant so not sure what was the problem, what could have been a sitting for 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 hours turned in...

One of my friends and I visited this restaurant yesterday evening for dinner and a catchup as we had not seen each other for quite a few years. We could honestly not be more impressed by the venue, service and food. The restaurant was clean and brightly lit, which I appreciated as so many restaurants nowadays are so dimly lit in the evenings that it is difficult to read the menu. The staff members were all friendly, welcoming and provided an efficient and attentive customer service without disturbing us unnecessarily.The quality of the food was excellent. My friend was very conservative and had a Margarita but I was more adverturous and had the BBQ beef burnt ends pizza which was unusual but extremely tasty and something which I would definitely order again on a future visit. I hope that it remains permanently on the menu. The bill was very reasonable, especially with the "second pizza for £1 offer." Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable evening and would not hesitate to recommend...
