What a treat it t'was to visit the Barnes branch of Pizza Express! The street, near Barnes Bridge, has the feel of a seaside port town, with its tempting fish and chip shops, but nothing would deter me from getting to the next stop on my quest, to visit every Pizza Express in London. On the way to this one, we walked past Gustav Holst's abode; he lived in Barnes from 1908-1913. I wonder whether the great composer ever frequented the Pizza Express establishment...? The evening was rounded off with some tennis at the National Tennis Centre with lovely, smashers people; I even caught a glimpse of Emma Raducanu's US Open trophy! Then it was home time for a bubble bath. I really need to get myself a rubber duck...🦆 Quality of Food: 17/20 This was a tasty Pollo Pesto with no mushrooms and some generous helpings of chicken. The Coppa Gelato was of a fine consistency with chocolate sauce and novelty. The meal was just right and not too heavy for tennis. Atmosphere: 17/20 I really loved the coastal feel to this Pizza Express. The rowing theme gave the impression of being by the sea. A small branch, it nevertheless had atmosphere and much to commend it. It was peak time, so there were quite a few families and a party gathering but with fine company and delicious food, this did not seem to impede my enjoyment. Staff friendliness and efficiency: 17/20 The staff were all very attentive. The order was taken quickly and we were able to pay the bill with speed in order to catch an Uber to the NTC. Cleanliness: 17/20 The restaurant appeared to be very clean and the sea air helped one to feel very healthy! Overall enjoyment: 17/20 This was my furthest journey so far to visit Pizza Express and it was worth every mile. The coastal feel and indoor tennis later that evening helped to secure this restaurant in my fondest memories. Final score: 85/100 (A) Excellent Next stop:...
Read moreWent with a party of 19 that I had pre booked and paid 5 pound deposit for including the children. I was then asked to do pre orders which was fine but 5 of my party were unable to pre order which I informed them of prior to the meal. When paying my deposit I asked how it worked and was told 5 pound would come off each persons meal as we would be paying in septate groups, (this was due to them not wanting to give me the full deposit back and everyone paying full price for their meals instead) to which when things started going wrong when it was time to pay I was then told that I hadn't been told this. We waited an hour and 20 minutes before anyone got any food (bearing in mind most orders were pre ordered) some food arrived inedible and the kids meals arrived near on last.
Our waiter spent a lot of time rolling his eyes and telling people to wait and when asked if he could do the cake, brought over the box, a candle and a light and attempted to bring it over to the table where my son could see. After ushering him away from the table I was then left to do the cake myself which I have never experienced in any other restaurant.
There were items added to the bill that weren't ordered and items that were ordered not added to the bill.
However I do have to state the female manager (unsure of her name) was very helpful and understanding as she was left to sort out all the issues even though she wasn't who I had booked with and would have much prefered if I had Done dealings with her from the start.
Think I will have to book with Pizza Hut instead next time I have a large...
Read moreI recently visited your Barnes branch in the hope that maybe it had improved and I was sorely disappointed! I had eaten at the restaurant in November and was nothing but disappointed in the service, the time we waited for our food (1hour for starters & almost another hour for our mains) and the attitude of the staff. On my most recent visit the staff was once again beyond rude & inattentive. We had to ask the waiter (who I know was the manager because he was the one that we complained to the last time) for a number of things on more than one occasion to which he responded "I got it for you it's there" and pointed but wasn't what we had asked for. Further to this after finishing our food and asked for the bill.. (again to the manager who was surving us) we then was left waiting for 15 minutes until I managed to wave down another waitress and explained to her we have been waiting 15minutes for our bill to which she very rudely didn't even acknowledge and just walked over to the till rolling her eyes and started moaning to another member of staff about the fact I asked for my bill. As somebody who really enjoys pizza express and lives in the local area I am upset and disappointed as I will not be returning. I think some serious staff training needs to be done at...
