We’re meeting friends here, first visit for all, started well, nice looking pub friendly bar staff. Ordered our food which was very reasonably priced, I wanted a well done steak, which a decent chef will cook so it is still succulent but could have no peppercorn sauce or any other sauce with it as they didn’t have any. My friend and I did two transactions one straight after the other, this saved working out after. Our friends got their meal 30 mins before ours. So hence we were unable to eat together. When mine arrived, my steak was tough and hard to swallow, plus they had forgotten my onion rings and had to be reminded. By now I’m feeling very disappointed. The manger came over and basically made me feel that all my complaints were my fault, apparently her husband also has a well done steak and he has no problems . She went on about the till system and told me we should of paid all together and sorted it out after, ( Silly me, we virtually paid at the same time, did not expect to wait 30 mins after our friends) she was rude and arrogant and had came across as un professional taking the criticism as personal. She never offered to redo the meal and told me I could have a refund, like she was doing me a favour, which I refused as a matter of principle because it was like I had been dismissed. Unfortunately I was unable to finish my meal. The bar staff who tried to give the refund were incredible apologetic and sympathetic which is her job. Think the bar staff should replace her. Went today to have a meal, the menu stated if you have an allergy ask a member of the bar staff. Went up to order and let the bar staff know I had a nut allergy.
The lady behind the bar said we can't guarantee it doesn't contain nuts, having eaten at many restaurants before, and heard this in various ways, I took this for traces of nuts. As me and my friend had just paid, the first aider came over and said 'due to cross-contamination we can't serve you anything.' The first aider failed to offer me any alternatives.
I returned to our table and went back to to confirm what the first aider had said. Although, they refunded my meal, my friend was waiting for his meal so we couldn't leave - which we would've done if they wouldn't have taken my order in the first place.
I then went to the Sainsbury's local and got a sandwich and a packet of crisps. Whilst I was using the facilities my friend was told I couldn't eat what I had bought from the shop.
I was halfway through my packet of crisps when one of the bar staff said 'I couldn't eat anything that wasn't bought from the pub.' Without understanding the urony of her comment.
I have always been responsible and independent with my allergy and would never eat anything, anywhere with nuts being in the ingredients. This is the first time this has happened with no meal alternative offered except the pub's crisps - even then they weren't even offered to me.
