Location: Just off the A406, and it is inside the Wing Yip building, not the easiest to find (where the entrance is) but you should be able to find it.
Food: This is a Cha Chaan Teng (Chinese: 茶餐廳), so I will provide review based on Cha Chaan Teng standard. I have ordered the following.
Hong Kong Style Milk Tea with Condensed Milk – The tea was a disappointment and I could have made better tasting tea at home. The tea was very weak and have no favour. In summary, rather rubbish tea and could be one of the worst I have tasted in the UK.
Iced Lemon Tea – It looks good but tasted horrible. I am not sure what is wrong with it but it tasted (unusual). No further comment on this.
Hong Kong Crispy Noodles with Pork (港式煎麵) – Well… the noodles was not crispy enough and the pork with sauce was tasteless. I did not ask for Red Vinegar, if I did, this dish may taste better. Another disappointment.
Baked Portuguese Chicken Rice 焗葡國雞飯 – I can only assume the chef has no idea what he was doing. In summary, no curry favour and no coconut favour. The onions was good and the rice was “bake” but overall, it tasted nothing like a Bake Portuguese Chicken Rice. Also, the chef used boneless chicken breast but I was expecting chicken pieces with bones as this is a Cha Chaan Teng.
Char Siu (叉燒) and Siu Yuk (燒肉) Roast Pork – The Char Siu was good and I enjoyed it. It was warmed up before being served on the table. However, the Siu Yuk was another disappointment. It was cold, the meat was chopped into very very very small pieces. The skin is not crispy and the worst is that the Siu Yuk was flooded in soy sauce.
Staff: The staff were friendly and efficient. However, the lady at the counter (the cashier) was rather rude. But hey, if she is counting that amount of money every day, she is entitled to be rude and drive customer away.
Conclusion: As a Cha Chaan Teng, a real disappointment. I will NOT recommend to others and unlike to visit again. Having said that, I have heard from my friend’s that the Egg Tart and Pipeapple Buns are good but I have not tried in this visit.
PS: Atmosphere earned a 4 stars because it has a Cha Chann...
Read moreGood food but have extremely nasty staff like a female manager & the cashier. They have no people skills & how to treat customers & don't deserve to be employed in an establishment where there are a variety of customers who these nasty staff think that they can shout at & misbehave with! Read moreReindeer Cafe is my ‘first choice’ go to Hong Kong Chinese restaurant. It’s a cafe style restaurant & competitively priced. No fixed service charge & tips are at your discretion. We always tip; minimum 10%. It’s always busy at lunch time, so I avoid the busiest period. I prefer not to share a table with people I don’t know. If I can’t, I’ll go to the bigger more elaborately styled Wing Tai Restaurant next door. Also always good. However I’m rarely disappointed at the Reindeer Cafe with any dish I order. The food is always consistently delicious, always plentiful & the menu offers a great choice. They have the best Hot & Sour soup for miles around. Our favourites are; mixed meat Ho Fun; deep fried beef & black bean noodles; beef brisket (any way you want it); Chinese curry; deep fried squid; barbecue meats; duck, chicken. You name it, I love it, even if it’s a dish not on the menu, they will always try to oblige. The Reindeer cafe also has a busy Chinese bakery inside so you can take away a great variety of cakes or enjoy one or two with a bubble drink or Chinese tea also in the cafe. There used to be a few outrageously rude staff who seem to be no longer there now, thankfully. The new ones are much friendlier now. Well done! Rude churlish staff greatly distract diners from having a positive experience & causes the restaurant to lose regular diners. I highly recommend...
