Tried the mixed meats and vegetables with noodles and the mixed meat and vegetables with rice. There was chicken pork duck and beef, the menu didn't mention it had beef in it. The beef was soft but looked like jerky, the appearance was not appetising, in fact looked rather off putting. In addition the pork chicken and duck had a pale underdone and pinkish look. The fats on the pork was quite a lot and hadn't been rendered or made crispy so it was just fatty fat same with the duck skin. Also got salt and pepper ribs which had a lot of grissle bits big huge grissle bits. Food was under average for my personal taste if I'm honest. Good sized portions. The 3 meals came to £24 with free prawn crackers. They gave me chopsticks upon request.
The shop was clean, the place looked tidy and in order. They have a bar and space for private function/dinner. The kitchen or prep area is visible which is good.
Staff was helpful but not very friendly or attentive, at times sarcastic too. Generous enough to offer a free chilli sauce pot "this time only, next time pay is cost £1.50" which was nice of them. The lady who gave the chopsticks however was really nice and had a friendly expression. Thanks.
I forgot to take photos of the food. It would undoubtedly have added some weight to my words.
Overall for me...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant with high hopes, but unfortunately, the service was abysmal. We ordered two bubble teas and a jasmine tea, which took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. To make matters worse, takeaway customers who arrived after us were served and left with their meals, while another customer who arrived long after us received their starters. Meanwhile, our food order hadn't even been taken yet.
When I requested to switch our order from dine-in to takeaway, the waitress was incredibly rude. She overly corrected my order description and snapped at me, which was completely uncalled for. The final straw was when I asked for a receipt, and I had to wait an additional 5 minutes for her to retrieve the correct one.
The service was not only slow but also discriminatory. As a Black customer, I couldn't help but feel that the poor treatment was racially motivated. The lack of attentiveness, combined with the waitress's attitude, made for a disappointing experience.
Unless you want to risk experiencing similar treatment, I would advise against visiting this restaurant, especially if you're Black. The food may be good, but the service is certainly not worth the hassle....
Read moreI have been eating at Round Square since they first positioned themselves at the current address some ten years ago and there are, of course, very valid reasons why I still frequent this particular restaurant even now - the best Chinese restaurant in Islington and the neighboring areas offering authentic Cantonese and Shanghainese cuisine. The food is cooked with passion and are truly delicious, value for money. Service is always excellent and professional. Staff, including the Boss herself, are attentive and courteous, always with a smile on their face. The restaurant and the two KTV rooms provide a relaxing ambience. My favorite dishes include their barbecued pork and roast duck from their own roaster; sweet and sour spare ribs, stuffed three treasures (aubergine, pepper, beancurd), braised chicken, Four Happiness Gluten Salad, Yellow Croaker with salt and pepper, braised pork...and many other signature dishes that one can be spoilt for choice. Once you have eaten at Round Square, you will appreciate what good simple Chinese food is about : taste, colour, aroma and presentation. ENJOY YOUR DINING EXPERIENCE AT ROUND SQUARE , YOU WILL NOT BE...
