Simmons Bar | Angel — Restaurant in London

This bouncer was inexplicably rude, aggressive and unsafe. Having evicted one of my friends from the bar with no real reason given, our group of 15 all left the bar.

I asked one of the other bouncers if I could go back inside as I needed to pee and he very reasonably allowed me in. Unfortunately the big guy found me inside and refused, his sound reasoning being "I don't like you".

He then threatened me with assault. Saying "I will remove my badge and mess you up" and that he "wanted to teach me a lesson" at which point the other bouncers looked quite uncomfortable and I walked away to diffuse the situation.

He is also noted to have taken photographs of our group WITHOUT our permission, and did not deny it on being questioned. I then specifically asked him for his permission to take this photograph to which he agreed and as you can see he was also stupid enough to pose for it.

I will be looking into legal action against this individual, he is clearly unsafe to be working as a bouncer, apart from his natural aggression, the fact that he takes photos of clients is a significant safety concern. Hopefully the owner/manager would be wise enough to relieve him or report him before this progresses.

The bar was otherwise ok....

This is our 2nd time visiting Simmons bar. It's an alcohol only venue. They serve 2 for 1 drinks that are pretty unique. They open every day from 4pm-12am except Mondays closed. Friday and Saturday open till 3am.

Happy Hour is from 4pm-9pm Sunday to Friday. The 1st time we went was for Valentines day last year. I tried many different cocktails. Some toppings include jelly beans, ginger crystals, delicious. My husband ordered a teapot with a drink that was made with banana...and it was very light not creamy. The drinks were strong and had bar tenders that were knowledgeable about their craft. The Live DJ was great and it was a nice time.

We went this last Friday, 8/1/25 and there was 1 young lady making drinks, another young man at the bar appeared to be being trained by the manager. We couldn't find the other drink. I ordered the Lychee Martini (it was served in 2 uniquely different tea cups...absolutely delicious and a Jagerbomb. My husband ordered Zombies, Long Island Ice Tea, and Pineapple Express in tea pots. The music was ok. No Live DJ when we were there. Maybe on specific nights/times.

Cost:...

Firstly, the positives - as with all Simmons bars; during happy hour, the drinks are super cheap. The staff at the Angel bar are friendly.

The negatives - the cocktails and most drinks taste really bad. They seem to use really cheap juice and syrup for their mixers (which has a really disgusting aftertaste).

I also witnessed people who could barely speak still being served drinks (which might explain my next comment).

The men's toilets smelt like vomit, and the air freshener was hanging open off the wall. I put it back on and noticed a short while later it had been removed again.

There was a general lack of atmosphere for a Saturday night. One staff member kept handing out sparklers and setting off confetti canon's (filling everyone's drinks with bits of confetti).

Worth popping in for a quick cheap drink during happy hour (if you can stomach the odd tasting mixers). Not somewhere I would recommend heading for...
