🚇Angel 🍺 £5.90 Amstel
A Great Place To Watch Sport in N1.
The Fox on the Green is located on the corner of Islington Green and Upper Street in Islington. The nearest Tube is Angel, it’s a five minute walk to get here.
This Grade II listed pub was originally built in 1793 as The Fox, it was rebuilt by Watney Combe Reid in 1872. The pub was renamed as the "Fox on the Green" in 2016.
Just opposite the pub is the Street Cat Bob Memorial Statue. Bob was famous for saving the life of James Bowen who was a homeless busker and heroin addict, James Bowen is now a bestselling Author.
This is a two room pub that has the main bar on the ground floor with an additional room upstairs called Basil’s Bar. The decor here is contemporary and combines traditional wood panelling and furniture with exposed brickwork and neon signs. The main bar is split level, decent in size and wraps around a centrally located servery. The seating is predominantly comfy benches and stools around poser tables, upstairs are low level tables and chairs. Around the walls are five screens for live sport.
The beer selection was solid, there was a bit of something for everyone including three cask and craft options. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was excellent, price point was average. The food menu has a plethora of comfort food options available with Burgers and Pizzas taking centre stage, Fish & Chips costs £16.
We visited just after 3pm on a sunny Sunday afternoon over the August bank holiday, the pub was busy with a younger local crowd. The atmosphere was upbeat and buzzy, there was lots of sport on that day, some punters were watching the F1, others were glued to the Sheffield Utd v Man City game. The service was on point, the staff were welcoming, engaging and all smiles.
The Fox shows all live sporting events including Premier League, Boxing and F1, there are also Comedy Nights throughout the month.
The @foxonthegreen.Islington was enjoyable visit, this pub offers a good selection of beers at reasonable prices. This is a great place to watch sport and has upbeat positive vibes.

Read moreI used to love this place and it’s great for football and foods decent. Staff are pleasant mostly but I won’t in a Friday to watch a premiership Matt h with some friends. Bearing in mind I have gone there quite regularly over the years. I was astonished to find that they added an “event surcharge” on top of their regular prices. Which had already been greedflated like most places post lockdown. But this was one step too far. Having paid £7.10 for a Neck oil in early April, I was charged £8.10! I hadn’t noticed until I seen the notification! Basically the pint is now £7:60 and they add 50p on “event nights” so basically Friday -Sunday and don’t inform you as the paying customer. Having drank this in areas such as Chelsea, east london, Richmond, Marylebone I can without a shadow if a doubt say it was the most expensive I’ve been charged. Hands down! I simply asked for my money back and left the pub as for me it’s completely taking advantage of people at a time when cost of living is soaring and the times they can afford to go out to the pub they shouldn’t be faced with these extortionate greedflated prices. Safe to say my friends and I will not be going there anymore and supporting this behaviour! Shame but we need to stop bowing to greedy pub owners/management and remind them that if we don’t turn up to pay because we can’t afford then it is them that will ultimately lose out! Still disgusted as...
Read moreVisited this pub last night for the first time, my friend asked the DJ for some songs, he was not happy about being asked but begrudgingly played one, no one had been dancing prior to this song but then a large table at the bottom of the stairs all got up to dance to it, everyone was enjoying it and singing along. After he played a few more songs she went to ask for another one and he got angry and aggressive saying he would only take 3 requests but he'd only had 1 at this point. He was saying it was his place and he would play his music. We were sat at the table right next to him and he then get coming over getting in my friends face and having a go at her about only playing his music, being extremely rude and aggressive. He then screamed at security to kick us out when we were just sat at the table drinking our drinks. I asked to speak to the manager, she was apparently called Phyllis, and she didn't even look us in the eye, she looked like she didn't care, did not take our complaint seriously, and at one point I had to even ask her if she was even listening to us. I've never seen such an aggressive explosive reaction from a DJ when asked for a song to be played. The security guard handled it well and was really nice to us as we're the bar staff but the manager and DJ are definitely in the wrong line of work and should not be in any kind of...
