Have been here many times and have had better experiences in the past. However, queued for brunch on Sunday and it was absolutely not worth the 45min queue in the pouring rain. The service was absolutely appalling. The ineffeciency of the staff was unbelievable. There were 4 members of staff (plenty for the number of tables) and we watched from outside as it took 7 trips back and forth between 3 of the members of staff to clear a two person table. They looked outside and stood around day dreaming whilst 3 tables were completely empty when there was a queue of customers freezing outside. When we got seated, two tables around us had either got the wrong order or didn't receive their order at all. The table who didn't were asked by the lady if they'd got their order. They said no, could we just have the bill please. She just said OK and didn't even apologise. A small group of girls came inside and asked if they could wait inside because they were soaked wet through and could see there were tables free. They got told they should always wait outside as they hadn't finished setting up. Staff dawdled around seeing to other things and eventually came and put two menus on the table and even later came back and put a bottle of water on the table. A while after said OK you can sit now. So bizarre. They didn't even have glasses for the water and said they'd have to wait longer for those. It took us 30mins to get a coffee after ordering, the previous table got one 20mins earlier and there was a barista stood at the coffee machine the entire time. Coffee arrived after the food. The pancakes with banana are really nice (go for the half portion as better topping ratio). I had the eggs benediction, which was tasty but word of warning.... the side of halloumi for ÂŁ3.50 is one small slice! The service was never great here but always felt worth it for the food. Really didn't feel worth it this time and won't be returning. Their cookbook is great... buy the cookbook and make the...
Read moreCredit to the kitchen but absolute shambles front of house service. I hope the staff at Sunday read this. Firstly - After waiting in the snow for 25 minutes to get in, staff were unable to suggest how long the wait would be (ridiculous), unable to offer to take a mobile number and phone when a table is available (reputable restaurants in London do this and it also aids local businesses - eg you can pop to the Hemmingford pub and get a drink) and could have offered a hot drink while you wait (in the snow?). Any three of these options would have sufficed to make the experince more pleasurable.
Secondly, the first waitress was pretty dumb and unable to take down an order for two people without snapping for us to slow down as she couldn't write it all down! (Two lattes and two omlettes!?)
Thirdly we were asked to move tables twice, being shifted around the restaurant because the staff had no logic about table plans. The second time our food had just came out and were were shifting hot drinks around the restaurant that staff hardly helped with - only for half of it to be cleared away during the move! (Half a pot of tea).
Then finally the idiotic second waiter realised he had made for two unhappy customers (also had the sudden a realisation that we were unlikely to tip) and slammed down the bill along with the card reader so we hardly got to glance at the amount. Then he offered us a free coffee each because of the chaos (would have preferred to have had our drinks knocked off the bill?) Only to then ask us to move away from the table and wait by the toilets for our unwanted coffees.
Truly the front of house here are appalling. It's not that difficult running a restaurant for max 40 people between four front of house. It was cringeworthy watching the panic, and all for a glorified breakfast. Drop the egos and learn good service - it's as important...
Read moreThe average person seems to really enjoy this restaurant which sums up the experience perfectly, average at best. We queued for an hour, so expectations were set accordingly for a quality meal. Ambiance was friendly, warm and cozy. We were 2 pax and sat at a communal table in between two other parties. Good thing the restroom was not needed. Excited for our meal we overlooked the downsides to a popular local breakfast spot and were excited for the delicious offerings. Unfortunately that was the extent of our positive experience. Our order was taken and the hospitality ended there. Tables next to us were served coffees and refreshments. 30 minutes later we inquired about the two juices we ordered and were told, apologies everyone is really busy. The rhubarb cooler special and fresh squeezed orange juice were very nice but to our disappointment it wasnât the only part of our order that was forgotten about. As all the tables sat after us were served their food we again inquired about ours. Apologized for, our food was rushed out lukewarm as to be expected in such a scenario. Burnt banana bread and decent egg dishes. Though the food was ok, it was hard to discern exactly what one was eating with any given bite as there were close to 20 different ingredients on the plate. Over complicating food being the sign of a passionate yet inexperienced chef covering up mediocrity. Ready for the bill, our experience was never addressed by the staff leaving the lack of hospitality as a poor taste in our mouths after our...
