Swad — Restaurant in London

After having a terrible experience with one of the local Indian sweet and savoury shop I decided to take a step in the unknown, a gamble to find a shop further away from where I live, on the occassion of Diwali! We all know what happens to sweets around Diwali time and I wasn't expecting much. And when I reached the shop, there was already an argument between a customer and a member of staff and my first thought was, Oh My God! what have I done (I do not know the whole story about what the issue was so I will not comment on that and will review solely on my experience only) But I am glad I was proved wrong, it is almost an hour drive one way from where I live, but it ended up worth every penny. The sweets tasted delicious and looked fresh, the savoury was mouth-watering and I do not have any complaints on how I was served. I purchased barfi, laddoos, dabeli, jalebi, dhokla, etc., so a lot of items. As I said earlier, it is a bit of drive for me but I am already looking for my next visit there. I hope it was not just one off and I will get the same taste, freshness and service next and everytime I go there. You have go to try the hot jalebies they were yummy. Manubhai gave the best service imaginable. We were looking for pure vegetarian food for a wedding for 100 guests. Manubhai talked us through all the various choices (what went with what and what didn't). He gave us excellent advice about the breakfast menu. He was happy to prepare several sample dishes. We were then able to make informed choices for the event. We advised him that a few guests had nut allergies, this did not phase him at all. He prepared separate food (the same menu but without nuts) for those guests. The food was wonderful, many guests having second and even third helpings! No food was wasted! The dhokra is probably the best I have ever tried. We arranged and confirmed times for his staff to attend. They arrived ahead of time. I was horrified that the owner was unable to meet the dietary needs of customers. When I asked him about the menu, he stated that we would get a daal and a vegetable curry. My elderly mother suffers with high potassium syndrome and painful knee osteoarthritis. The tiffin meal was highly unsuitable as all it contained was potatoes! High potassium diet. Plus there was no vegetable dish on the menu. Just chickpeas, potatoes and daal. This was not a staple diet for people suffering with dietary needs. When asked about a varied vegetable choice, the own or stated all vegetables are too expensive with the cost of living!!
