We visited them around 5 times in last 2 years.
South indian Restaurant & Bar. Serves food & drinks including alcoholic cocktails. Wheelchair accessible though the interior seems packed and makes difficult to move around with wheelchairs or prams or push chairs. Kids friendly and provides high-chairs.
Car parking: ———— Not easy to get nearby parking but many of street parking available most time of day. Pay machines are operated by RingGo which is an app you can download from android/iOs. Use the location Id written on machine to pay. I recommend it as the app reminds you prior the expiry time and you can extend the parking just by a click. Have to walk a few minutes to reach the restaurant.
Staff ——— Friendly and explains in details if you want to make sure of allergies. They always take a resonable time to prepare food eventhough it may not be busy at peak. But they are polite and caring -helpful to assist you even in matters out of box.
Food —— South Indian -particularly Kerala & Tamil dishes. They stick to the tastes of customer -depends on how chilly/hot you want your dishes to be. I asked for HOT and it was always nice to enjoy the traditional kerala style of porotta with beef curry, kappa & fish or Appam with stew. We always order takeaways too but did not like starters like “gobi manjooriyan” or samoosa as it tasted plain.
Cost ——- Affordable always as we never had to pay bills more than £45 after having 4-5dishes, drinks and deserts for minimum of 3 people.
As I stated , we revisits them almost regular now though had to drive almost 45mins to reach here -added to that the horrible experience of traffic in Croydon to experience. So that makes my opinion. I recommend it for serious experimentalists who wishes for hot...
Read moreWe decided to visit this Kerala restaurant in Croydon yesterday, drawn in by its glowing 4.1-star rating and nostalgic promises of “authentic” food from home. Spoiler: the only authentic thing here was our regret.
We ordered 3 Kizhi Porotta with Beef – their special of the day – and 5 appams with Fish Molly. The service started off well; a sweet Malayali lady greeted us warmly and made us feel welcome. But that’s where the good part ends.
The food took forever to arrive, and when it did, we realized patience doesn’t always pay off. The beef in the Kizhi Porotta was clearly cooked from frozen – rubbery, thick, and the complete opposite of what you’d call “fresh.” The porottas? Burned. All three plates. For a dish labeled as their special, it felt more like an afterthought.
Here’s a suggestion for the management: if you’re going to serve frozen meat, at least have the decency to inform your customers beforehand. When people come to an “authentic” Kerala restaurant, they’re hoping for fresh, well-prepared food, not something that’s been defrosted and overcooked. Transparency matters, especially when you’re trading on nostalgia.
We gave our feedback to the waiter, who was genuinely understanding and even offered us a discount. Kudos to her for handling it so well, but we paid in full and asked her to pass the message to the kitchen. Hopefully, they listen.
And to top it all off? Today, all of us are dealing with stomach issues. Make of that what you will.
If you’re considering this place, my advice: ask about the freshness of the ingredients before you order. Or better yet, just go...
Read moreI am an Indian from Kerala (a state in south India) and know how Kerala restaurants should be
I would rate this restaurant as one of best Kerala restaurants that I have ever eating in London.
The prices are simply the best for authentic dishes. Try the chicken biryani made like it is made in Kerala in good quantity, not just with a chicken piece but also a boiled egg in it, just for some £ 3.00
Where in London except maybe in some supermarket can you get to sit and eat biryani for 3 pounds, that too in stomach filling quantities.
Food is very spicy and authentic kerala style. Try some of the pan fried fishes like sardines or mackeral. The restaurant is run by kerala family.
One dish which I was not very happy with was the kerala paroto which was not as soft as the ones we often eat in Kerala. (Of course by UK standards it was good, but I would not call it excellent).
The only drawback I found in this restaurant is that space is very less (not a large space). Wish they would find some way to expand it. This makes the place a little cramped and congested.
If you are not looking for extremely classy high class kind of ambience but real value for money, this is the place for you. (Although I would not recommend it for a highly romantic date or a place where you want to impress someone by...
