We recently moved to the neighborhood hoping we would have a good local Thai restaurant nearby. I have lived in Thailand and love and know the cuisine well. So this little gem happened to be a few 100 ft away from our new flat so we decided to give it a go. The restaurant is small but very tastefully done in wood and warm colors. It wasn’t busy , as most people now, unfortunately, order take away. Lucky for us as we got to know the chef, staff and the food on a more personal note. My family all love proper spicy Thai food, and I can assure you, if you ask for it, they will deliver. That is the first positive, secondly the food is so authentic and not too sweet. Everything we had was amazing. The fourth time going, as it never disappointed, the chef had a special menu which we ordered from. To try different tastes. It was, in my opinion, the best Thai dinner I’ve had! Betel leaf wraps, Som Tom with 4 different rice sides, a special jungle curry etc. I think I’ve tried 70% of the Thai restaurants in London, and I can say that this is my...
Read moreRight - all these negative reviews are from when this restaurant was under its OLD management. Thai Corner Cafe is now called Thai Corner Islington and is a TOTALLY different place! My father lives in Bangkok and so I've spent the last 12 years visiting him every year and making an effort to try as much authentic Thai cuisine as possible. I can honestly say that the food we ordered tonight is the closest to real Thai food that I've had outside of Thailand in a LONG time. NOT like some of the watered down and westernised Thai food you get in pubs or in country town restaurants - the beef Weeping Tiger dish and chicken Jungle Curry we had tonight was so delicious we couldn't quite believe it! Please disregard the old reviews of this place from a year ago. The new management and chefs really know what they're doing! Great value too. We'll definitely be either going or...
Read moreVery good meal overall. I thought the mains were the stand out dishes. We had cod in red curry sauce, beef with Thai basil and som tom (papaya salad). The plates you eat off are delivered to the table really hot just before the food arrives which a lot of restaurants don't seem to bother with these days. The food was fresh and not too adjusted to western tastes. The service is warm and friendly and I'll certainly go back there.
Having read some of the more critical reviews of the restaurant I don't think they're entirely fairly. Unless you order a curry for take away, this type of cuisine doesn't travel well in a plastic box. You need to eat it straight away. Noodles & stir fry stuffer the same fait as nan bread when sat on the back of a moped for 20 mins (cold & soggy). People need to manage their expectations or order...
