The Connaught located on a side road off of green lane seven kings (parking free after 6:30pm)offers you up an American style brunch & dinner service. The brunch is served everyday 8:30am-4:30pm(will definitely be back to try lolz). The dinner menu served everyday between 5pm-11pm you know cant go wrong with a good range of gourmet burgers, steak & desserts. I love the fact they added where they sourced their meat on the menu (beef burgers made from Irish Hereford Angus cattle/ Denver steak from creekstone farms etc) not many do.
For starters we got onion rings pretty much basic & wings they were fried and drenched in dynamite sauce & sprinkled with sesame seeds loved the flavours.
We chose the brisket stacker, which was a smash style burger, topped with pulled beef brisket. It was nice, not enough sauce but I know I would love some of that brisket cooking gravy to drizzle over the brisket that would just send it over the top would have been a killer item!! It was served with the house fries which were nice and crisp, served in little fry baskets and had an Italian seasoning.
We also chose the buffalo cheese burger, when I read blue cheese I was intrigued to see how they would create it. I must admit it was one messy burger and if you love sauces this is the one loaded with house made coleslaw, house sauce, dipped in buffalo sauce and topped withā¦you guessed it blue cheese sauce, get the napkins ready lolz!! The chicken surprisingly still had a crisp exterior and was nice and juicy. However my bun got drenched & started to fall apart didnāt stop me demolishing my plate. The flavour combination Is really nice with the tangy blue cheese and the creamy coleslaw to balance the spice from the buffalo sauce.
We chose to upgrade our meal drinks to mocktails as we wanted to try them, our favourite was passion fruit mojito which was so nice fruity not too sweet with lime & mint. The blueberry red bull was nice aswell I thought the red bull would over power the flavour but the balance was just right.
Dessert?!! Yes please, a light sponge with cascading hot gooey toffee sauce and cold vanilla ice cream all washed down with a lovely freshly made cappuccino!!
We would definitely recommend this place you wonāt be disappointed, great food at a reasonable price and I canāt wait to come back for brunch and a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place doesnāt do reservations, so we walked in for dinner during the week and wasnāt busy at all. It is a small place, with relatively few tables available, so do bare that in mind for any one visiting during busy times and/or as large groups.
They do seem to be popular more for their brunch, so wouldnāt be surprised if they are busier during that time.
After a few minutes of deliberating, I wanted to start off with some dynamite prawns, then went for the butter chicken burger with fries and a drink.
I also tried the chicken steak, which was served with mushroom sauce, mash and vegetables.
The dynamite prawns came and I was somewhat disappointed with the size and portions. The prawns were really tiny, which was a portion of 6. Considering they were £6 a portion, averaging at £1 per prawn this is ridiculously overpriced - refer to the images to draw your own conclusion. Having said that, it was very tasty and enjoyed the sauce that covers the prawns.
The mains came and the burger was the perfect size for me. I could see that this was essentially a deep fried chicken burger with some butter chicken sauce spread on top of the crispy fillet. The fries came with a light sprinkling of rosemary.
The chicken burger was well cooked, fried well and had that crunch that I love. The butter chicken sauce accompanied the burger well. I wouldāve liked a little more of the sauce over the fillet, however I do understand it may compromise the burger. Still, this was a really enjoyable meal. The fries were fine without being spectacular and of a decent portion.
I tried some of the chicken steak as well, which was essentially a butterflied chicken, which had a blend of good flavours and seasonings. Cooked well and chicken was moist. The portion of the chicken was fine, although felt the portion of the mash and vegetables was lacking. The mushroom sauce had a nice balance of flavours and āsaucynessā - not too thick at all.
Overall, I think this is a good local place to come for a dinner, with some nice dishes available. My opinion is that a few tweaks with the pricing and portions makes this a much more attractive place to visit.
I would like to try out the brunch menu sometime...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were genuinely blown away by the novelty of the new brunch menu at The Connaught Ilford, and Iām so happy to say that it exceeded expectations. Thereās no doubt about it, greater London is becoming saturated when it comes to aesthetic halal brunch spots, however, very few of these establishments deliver past the aesthetic, and we are still lacking delicious brunch cafĆ©s in Ilford.
The striking thing about the brunch menu at the Connaught is that every dish is under Ā£10, a rarity given the large portion sizes and presentation of the food. We tried: š³ Steak & eggs (Ā£7.50) š„ Classic breakfast (Ā£8.00) š„ Berry cake pancake (Ā£7.00) š Aussie French toast (Ā£8.00) š„¤ Fresh orange juice (Ā£3.00)
Every item was better than any breakfast we have tried in recent months. The standouts for me were the steak & eggs and the Aussie French toast. The steak and eggs were served with smashed avocado and pulled beef brisket and it was just delicious. My only slight criticism is they were a little cold. The flavour from the brisket melted together with the tang of the seasoned avocado, and this was my favourite dish. Iām a massive coconut fan so the Aussie french toast was also a unique dish in my opinion: coconut french toast served with mango, mango puree and fresh berries, we were left wanting more!
The pancakes were pretty incredible. Each fluffy American pancake had a crisp, crystallised sugar crust on the top which tasted beautiful. The classic breakfast was your standard mix of savoury with a few fruits chucked in to add some sweetness. Again, for the price portion sizes were generous and it was more of a safe option for those who enjoy a fry up. The fresh orange juice glass was huge and refreshing.
Since our first visit, I have been back for brunch twice more and had similar great experiences. It does get busy after 10am and I have seen people queue before as the establishment is small. The restaurant was packed on a Tuesday morning and is family friendly with highchairs available. We enjoyed their breakfast a lot more than the dinner menu, and their prices and portion sizes make it great value for money. Would...
