Not a great experience! Unfortunately my 83 year old mum's special Christmas lunch was rather spoilt by being put on a draughty table on the edge of the restaurant because we had brought a small toy poodle with us, even though the restaurant area remained almost empty during the whole time we were there. - 2.30pm to 4pm. I had previously been to the restaurant with the same dog and sat on a banquette table with a view of the kitchen! Unfortunately, this Sunday when we arrived we were seated on a table near the exit. I asked if we could sit on the banquette tables (all empty except one) and was told by the rather frosty receptionist that because we had a small dog and had not 'said when booking' we had to sit on this very cold and uncomfortable table as it was 'the furthest from the kitchen'. The corner banquette table is actually further away and I explained that I had sat quite close to the kitchen before with the same dog. I booked online where it clearly says 'dog friendly' and was not asked if we were bringing a dog. My mum had come from North Herefordshire for a Christmas weekend and ended up with a view of the pub exit (the door was open so she had to wear her coat during our meal). I had a view of the gents toilet - see photo. Our meal was ok, the starters were nice. Mum's beef was rather tough so we brought it home in a doggy bag! Just to say, that during the time we were were there, a large, white German Shepherd actually came into the restaurant with its owner and disappeared into the kitchen for several minutes before coming out and returning to the pub! I did ask the staff if we could move several times but was told that it was 'the law' that we had to sit where we were and that 'if a government inspector' came in we would be 'breaking the law' if we were sitting at a different table! We spent £128 including the £14 plus tip but won't be doing this again. Very disappointing and a bit upsetting as it was meant to be a treat. I think the 'dog friendly' statement on the website is very...

Visited The Duke of Sussex with friends on a Monday evening and had a fantastic experience. The pub was quiet, allowing for a relaxed dining atmosphere, and the staff were attentive and welcoming. The weather added to the enjoyment, letting the evening unfold comfortably.

The space is stunning, featuring high ceilings, crystal chandeliers, ornate wall moldings, and artful botanical prints.

Every dish was beautifully presented. From the creative starters—like crispy arancini topped generously with cheese—to the fresh asparagus salad and vibrant carrot, chickpea, and feta salad, each plate demonstrated thoughtful preparation. The burger and fries were classic comfort food, served hot and well-seasoned. Dessert featured a decadent chocolate and hazelnut tart paired with creamy ice cream, finishing the meal on a high note.

The background music was perfectly curated, enhancing the mood without overwhelming conversation. The overall quietness of the evening made it easy to enjoy both the food and company.

Service was exceptional throughout the night. Staff were friendly and happy to help, providing great recommendations and attentive, genuine hospitality.

Would highly recommend The Duke of Sussex for both its lovely ambiance and excellent food. Looking forward to...

Myself and a friend had been in the pub which I have been going to for 7 years.

we entered around 1pm and had been having a couple of pints every hour or so as well as some food, around 7pm the manager Nikola came and told us to move from our table as they needed it for quiz night, we had been patrons since 1pm and refused to move as it had no reservation sign and we were comfortable where we were. she was rude and condescending in the way she spoke with us. 10 minutes later a random customer comes by asking us to move which show this manager clearly discussing matters with other patrons, we explain to the random man we have been here for 6 hours spending money and are comfortable where we are. I then try to order a couple more beers only to find all the staff had been told by nikola the manager not to serve us. I then confronted the manager as to why we are not being served and she became emotional to the point of tears saying we will not serve you unless you move.

this is an absolute joke and appalling standard to hold your business to. I doubt I will be recommending the pub I called my local...

A really good experience here with good food and reasonable service. The portions were bigger than expected and we probably didn't need so many plates of tapas! The aubergine fritters were a real surprise and far better than expected. The chimichuri really added something to the dish. The sardines were another hit: well cooked, full of flavour but not over powering. The pork tenderloin with blue cheese was the same: flavourful without being too strong. Beef pintxos, chistorro and chorizo in cider were okay. A few of the dishes were a little (little!) disappointing: The duck hearts was incredibly rich but dominated by caramelised onions and the hearts were tough. The artichoke, jamon and mushroom dish was a bit bland. The monkfish looked lovely but was slightly overcooked , enough to make cutting it difficult. Having said all of that, the positives far outweighed the negatives and we would definitely go back.
