The Fox at Crouch End: A Mixed Bag with Potential

The Fox at Crouch End offers a classic pub experience with a focus on food, aiming to be a local favorite. However, reviews paint a somewhat mixed picture, so let's delve into what you can expect:

Ambiance:

Classic and Comfortable: Reviews describe The Fox as a typical pub with a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Versatile Seating: The pub offers a variety of seating options, catering to groups and solo diners alike [DesignMyNight website].

Food and Drink:

Menu Focus: The menu boasts classic pub fare like burgers, fish and chips, and a Sunday roast. They also offer brunch and vegetarian options [DesignMyNight website]. Inconsistent Reviews: While some reviews praise the food quality, others mention issues like overcooked chips or subpar ingredients [Tripadvisor reviews].

Service:

Mixed Opinions: Service seems to be a point of contention. Some reviews mention attentive staff, while others point to slow service and a lack of attentiveness [Tripadvisor reviews].

Other Considerations:

Price: Reviews mention the pricing can be on the higher end for pub fare, especially considering some reports of underwhelming quality [Tripadvisor reviews]. Family-Friendly: The pub is said to be welcoming to families, with a dedicated children's menu [DesignMyNight website]. However, the atmosphere might be more suited for adults in the evenings.

Overall:

The Fox at Crouch End has the potential to be a great local pub, offering a comfortable space, classic food options, and a family-friendly vibe. However, the inconsistency in reviews regarding food quality and service needs to be considered. If you're looking for a reliable pub experience with high-quality food, you might want to explore other options in Crouch End. However, if you're willing to take a chance for a classic pub setting, it could be...

Very disappointed by the lady working by the hot Food counter today 16/07/2023 around 4-5pm. When me and my friend arrived, this lady/ staff member was staring at us with no greeting- It was awkward. I understand most places in Crouch End are relaxed and local- family friendly, but At least some friendly acknowledgment/ or a “hello” would be nice. Anyways, while she was observing us, I asked her if there are any seats available for a drink, and without any effort, she just says ‘this table there and there is reserved”. As we were about to sit by this empty table, she abruptly shouts “NOT this table!”. Me and my friend just froze, humiliated and sadly felt we were forced to leave, we were shocked by her behaviour and tone. Before you start wondering, no we are not kids (in ours 30’s), we were not drunk (super sober),smart casually dressed. We just fancied a quiet drink with a friendly atmosphere like we had from our last visit early in 2022. Today, my experience was the complete opposite- she literally made us feel like kids.

For the sake of your business, please could you ensure that this never happens again to any of your new/ returning customers. I understand the pressure when you are under staffed/ busy, but there is no need to be rude. One bad experience is enough to not...

Beautiful pub and have had some AMAZING meals in the past (especially the brunch).

Staff are individually lovely but service is odd.

We were served by 4-5 different people which resulted in: things being forgotten about (had to request tap water 3 times from different people and it still didn't come); no one checking on the table; drinks coming well after the food; the wrong drinks coming every time (staff would rush off before we could say anything so just had to go with it!); and we had to get up and go to the front desk whenever we wanted to order something as we were in the corner so were ignored. It would be better if we just had one person attending our table that we could have built a rapport, otherwise we were largely ignored.

Think the table really enjoyed their burgers but I had the flatbread for lunch and it was rock solid 😞 Couldn't even complain about it as staff didn't stick around or ask how our meal was! Unfortunately we had to remove the service charge from the bill which really hate doing but staff were apologetic and gave us a further discount to say sorry.

Hope they turn it around as it's a lovely pub (decor) but will need better service to compete with the other crouch end...

First visit since it arrived in Crouch End. Excited to try the menu. For a Friday evening in November, it wasn't busy at all. I ordered the ox cheeks but the portion looked minimal. We ended up ordering triple cooked chips which tasted nice, all five pieces. It's tastes ok but I felt the sauce was rich and salty. Disappointing. My friend orders the lamb and really enjoyed the dish. For dessert we ordered the cookie dough and sticky toffee pudding, it was extremely sweet and the ice cream scoop looked like it shrank. For the price of the meal, it didn't seem good value or tasty either. Although it wasn't busy for a Friday evening, there were times where we couldn't see wait staff around, or they'd be serving the table near us but would walk off despite us calling them over. I dont think I'll be in a hurry to revisit but I wish them well.

A true gem in Crouch End! The food was amazing, and the drinks were above and beyond. The waiter was absolutely lovely - very attentive, friendly, and happy to share his best recommendations. It’s definitely one of my favourite spots. Plus, it’s dog-friendly, so I had the best time seeing all the adorable dogs.
