I don't really know where to start. The atmosphere was great. And the decor. Was really busy so was looking forward to a good meal when we walked in.  Also serving Creedy Carver poultry from Crediton which was great and is where my shop and bistro is!! Granny Gothards ice cream and Brixham fish... all from Devon.

We were a table of 5. We waited about 20 minutes before anyone came to take our drink order. Then another 20 of minutes before food order.

Ordered 3 of the plaice specials, squash carpaccio and brother ordered lamb shank. Waiter then said sorry we are out of lamb shank. OK no problem... picked something else. Chose the beef ribs.... again sorry also that has sold out. Both part of the specials menu so he chose  from the main menu... chicken Kiev. waiter said I'll go and check with the kitchen to see if available. We thought he was joking. Off he went to check. Came back, yes Kiev is definitely available. Amazing.

10 minutes later a waitress came back and said I'm sorry the last chicken Kiev was taken by another table so I'm afraid you'll need to choose again. I explained this was the 4th dish he had chosen and she just said yea things run out. It's busy. And was rude. I own a bistro and I'd be a bit annoyed if my staff spoke to customers the way she did. My brother then chose the pork. This was his 4th choice.

15 minutes later the waiter came back and said sorry, only 2 plaice left. I said that's OK I'll have the steak instead.

Another 20 odd minutes the food turned up... but instead of the carpaccio fish and chips arrived. Put all our meals down and took the fish back. By the time the carpaccio arrived we were well into our mains. In the meantime, my step dad said I thought there was meant to be mussels with the plaice? Also my partners place was so overcooked and dry it had become a powdery dry texture like over cooked chicken. I mentioned to the waiter again and he took the fish away... my partner then ordered the pork ribeye (which my brother had also ordered on his 4th choice). Also mentioned the plaice was meant to come with mussels in the sauce.

20 minutes later after we had all finished, a bowl of mussels in the shell arrived and my partners pork. I did mention to a couple staff members, one lady was a bit rude about the situation and the lad didn't seem to know what to say. I will say I enjoyed my steak and my sister in law enjoyed the squash carpaccio. The pork was cooked well but the bean stew underneath was very oily.

On receiving the bill they had added an extra double non alcoholic gin when we had ordered singles all night.  When I queried it he said "oh well I did pour you a double but I can take it off if you like" The point being we didn't even order a double.

I genuinely don't write bad reviews until I've spoken to the staff,  and my 2 star would have been a 3 star if the staff had actually done something about the catalogue of cock ups throughout the entire experience and at least tried to rectify but we were met with a slight argumentative attitude and weren't even offered a free drink whilst we had to wait for dribs and drabs of the meal to arrive.

It's a shame as we...

On first impression, Sands End appears to be a relaxed, welcoming pub with comfy chairs and big tables. Pair that with the positive online reviews and you would seem to have a nice Sunday afternoon ahead.

Things then quickly took a turn as soon as we were seated. The staff were so uninterested in their job or their customers it would make one question do they even work there. Not rude as such, just totally incapable of communication. It took a worrying amount of time and effort to receive menus and place our order.

Then, unfortunately, the food arrived. It was the first time I have ever had a proper roast dinner in a British pub so naturally, I was excited. Sadly, that excitement only served to further my disappointment. The meat was of poor quality - a strange grey/brown colour, a lot of grizzle. I would question the meat's country of origin, certainly not the UK or Ireland, unlikely to be even from the EU. The potatoes undercooked. I'm not really sure what exactly they did to the turnips, but I was shocked at how bad they managed to make a seemingly inoffensive vegetable. The gravy was miserable.

We decided to go to the till to pay as the staff seemed to have forgetten they were in work again. It came to £58 total for two roast dinners, two sides and two cokes. No alcohol. Quite expensive for any roast dinner, but baffingly overpriced for the experience the Sand's End offer. The even had the cheek to add a £6.50 discretionary service charge. I would have requested to have it removed from the bill if I wasn't in such shock from the whole experience.

Overall, horrendous. Please do not go. You will regret it forever. I feel so strongly about this that it has spurred me into action in writing this, my first ever,...

I feel really let down by the Sand’s End. We ordered roast beef with all the trimmings; the Yorkshire pudding was stone cold & the cauliflower cheese was hard as a rock. When I told the man (who said he was the manager), he took the Yorkshire puddings from our plates, when the same (bitten into Yorkshire pudding) came back they were still cold. I explained again that they were cold. He then brought a new Yorkshire pudding over to the table, which I was grateful for. Then a lady came along and asked if everything was ok (clearly she had been instructed to) and I just explained the situation. With no apology, the lady defended saying that “things get cold from the kitchen to your table”. I asked how could the third Yorkshire pudding be hot and she had no answer. She asked was everything else ok with our dinner. To be honest I felt really intimidated by her manner and just brushed it off. We asked for the bill and a third person asked us how everything was, at this stage I was pretty annoyed and explained the situation again! Thankfully, this lovely girl actually seemed surprised about it, apologised and took the drinks off our bill. As much as I appreciated this, I still felt very disappointed and won’t...

This find was a little gem, tucked away in Fulham (Stephendale Road). I came here last Friday and the food was amazing. It was fresh and presently beautifully. The Fulham Arms is dog friendly too. I ordered the fish, which was sat on a rich and tasty sauce with fresh tomatoes, which had depth. My friend ordered the fish and chips. I also had a side of the truffle fries, very tasty. I also would highly recommend the blonde, with rhubarb, ginger crumble and vanilla ice cream. (This desert was also recommended by the waiter) (it did not disappoint) The atmosphere was calm and our waiter, Robert was so polite, friendly and very helpful; when it came to explaining the dishes and assisting us when various questions about the food. Robert is a true asset to The Fulham Arms. I would high recommend this place and would also come back.

Sunday Beef Bavette Roast w/carrots, spinach and a giant Yorkshire pudding. 8.5/10. Sunday roasts are a dime a dozen in the UK, let alone in London where it is saturated by touristy pubs or pretentious gastropubs serving none other than average pieces of beef and slapping a 'Sunday Roast' tag on them. Then comes Sands End Pub's spin on the traditional dish. Serving up a bavette cut of the beef, the roast focuses on the majestically tender and reddish pink strips of the meat lavishly bathed in a home cooked sauce and sharing its top billing on the plate with a side of rustic vegetables. Crowned with a ginormous Yorkshire pudding the size of an air pumping fist, the classic dish is complete...along with my search for the best Sunday Roast around.
