The food was nice, good portions. The garden was really pretty. However more staff are needed, waited over 10 minutes at the garden entrance for someone to notice us, which they didn’t (well actually one did notice us but then carried on serving other tables rather than coming over/telling someone we were there), so I had to go inside and alert them we were there. If bookings are every half an hour, this should probably be checked periodically. Then a huge group of people came in, and after that finding a server was impossible. After our mains we waited for over 30 minutes to order dessert and the servers just kept bouncing back and forth between 2 rowdy tables - at least 4 times after we’d finished mains to serve the same 2 tables / take orders. Asked for the bill when desserts came, we were forgotten about and when they collected our plates, we asked for the bill again. Still no bill! Yet the table next to us had been billed twice in the time they’d been there for their rounds of drinks. We came at 3:30, seated at 3:45ish, didn’t leave until 6pm. We finished our mains at 4:40ish, didn’t get to order desserts til 5:15. Not the best experience. I do understand it was busy and we should expect to be waiting a little longer but you should only accommodate the number of people you can actually serve, and then servers should ensure they at least check in with their tables that have been waiting - as I said we watched them go back and forth between the other tables behind and next to us but we could not get...
Read moreHave been visiting this fantastic little pub for almost 2 years now since moving to the area. I stand by my opinion that a better Sunday roast cannot be found anywhere else. It’s become a staple of our week for my wife and I, and we have brought numerous friends and family members in too to try it… all of whom have left with full stomachs and smiling faces. Think fresh, home cooked food just like you remember from your childhood, grandma or mom’s cooked dinners. 5 or 6 choices of meats and option to mix 2 types on the roasts if you want. Everything is fresh, all the veg… even the gravy is made from the meat and veg stock like gran used to. Good veggie and vegan options too. Pub staff are friendly and welcoming, good range of beers and drinks at reasonable prices. Pub is old, cosy and comfortable with a lovely, large canalside rear patio for the summer and open fires inside in the winter.
At a time where more and more of our traditional local pubs are closing down, it’s more important than ever to support the few good ones that are left. At the end of a weekend, I will always put my hard-earned money in the till of a fantastic little family-run freehouse like this, than those chain Greene King or Toby places serving microwaved, commercially cooked rubbish.
A real hidden gem and so glad to have it right on our doorstep...
Read moreWe are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children (16 & 11) staying at Premier Inn Uxbridge. We went to the on site Beefeater restaurant at 6pm to a virtually empty restaurant to be told we would have to wait 1hr 45mins for a table! As we were tired and hungry we decided to venture out to seek food elsewhere. Directly opposite the estate was the General Elliott pub, we thought we would give it a go. First impressions were warm, welcoming and friendly, this remained the theme throughout the visit. The staff couldn't do enough for you, full table service (if you want or order/pay at bar, whatever you were comfortable with). They had daily specials along with the typical but reassuringly familiar British pub menu that was reasonable priced for the area. All our meals were really enjoyable but the steak was superb. Large selection of drinks available. Nice choice of desserts, which we enjoyed. The weather wasn't very good but we could see a lovely beer garden looking onto the canal which would be idilylic in sunny weather. We would really reccomend to anyone staying at Premier Inn Uxbridge to give it a try, so much nicer than the Beefeater...
