🚇 Hendon Central 🍺 £4.90 Amstel
A Village Pub In Urban Hendon.
The Greyhound is located in Hendon Northwest London close to Middlesex University. The nearest Tube is Hendon Central, it’s a fifteen minute walk to get here.
This pub was established in 1676 and rebuilt in 1898. The pub was originally a Church House and is still owned by a trust of St Mary’s Church. There are some notable people buried at the church, Sir Stamford Raffles the founder of Singapore and legendary Arsenal manager Herbert Chapman.
This is a traditionally decorated three room pub that has a local village pub feel. The servery is located in the middle room and is clad in mahogany panels with brass fixtures and fittings. To the right of the servery is a cosy room that has the church’s Ten Commandments boards adorning one of the walls. To the left of the servery is a spacious bar area which is clad in beautiful wood panelling. There is also a real open fire surrounded by comfy chesterfield sofas.
The beer selection is good and consisted of familiar favourites, London Craft and three cask ales. I decided on an Amstel, my pint was great, price point was pleasingly under a fiver. There is a classic pub grub menu available, Fish & Chips costs £16.50.
We visited on a Saturday lunchtime for a few jars before heading off to watch @saracensofficial up the road. The atmosphere was calm and relaxed with a few other punters dotted around the pub. The service was pleasant, the chap who served us was warm and welcoming.
The pub hosts Quiz and Games nights and also Open Mic jams.
Visiting @thegreyhoundhendon_ was a superb pub experience. I loved the setting, the village pub ambiance and the beer was reasonably priced. There were once fourteen pubs in Hendon, now there are only three, thankfully The Greyhound endures. If you’re ever in this part of town, be sure to visit this fantastic boozer.

Read moreThe worst pub ever visited. I felt discriminated against, abused, belittled, disrespected, mistreated and manhandled by the so called manager/owner who talked down on me. He played God not servant to customer. He called me aside and told me that I must leave. So, I obviously asked him why? He told me that I had been aggressive. I asked him how? He told me that he'd looked at the CCTV footage which had told him that we'd misbehaved. I thought to myself, what a really big idiot he was since CCTV don't talk. He had lied because all we'd done was ask the waiter about our drinks, at the counter, that we'd just bought. Throughout our stay at the pub we had behaved most decently. I felt that I was being singled out and profiled by the owner simply because of race. The owner actually had said that he'd seen three back people on the CCTV... Another person acting similarly had not been admonished. I felt I was being singled out. Why? I was told never to return to the pub, that I had been banned. Surely, wasn't that the most foolish thing to do when choice was so much in abundance. This pub had absolutely nothing special to offer, so why would I ever crave to return? Was the owner being serious or simply an imbecile? Let me remind the idiot that there are hundreds of other pubs that treat people mote decently. Why would I surely want to ever return there? My pub experience was extremely terrible and wouldn't any time soon be planning to return there. The owner is a real monster, talking down on people, is that not unprofessional way to run a business? He falsely accused me of things that he'd made up which he lacked any merit evidence off. He is a big fat liar. I really don't care whether he's the owner, but he needs to have some common decency to respect others (customers) if least he...
Read moreAfter a wonderful Easter service at St Mary’s Hendon we went into The Greyhound (whose freehold belongs to the church). The pub was empty. We were welcomed by “we’re only serving drinks! (I think to myself what else is a pub there for)? No good morning! No greeting! We bought our drinks & went into what used to be the snug & sat around a small table to enjoy our drinks. No sooner sat down a busy looking a red haired lady with a mobile phoned attached to her face (assistant mgr) instructed us that the table was booked for diners at 3pm & she had to lay the tables. I said we would only be there for 30 mins. She insisted we find somewhere else to sit. There were only very heavy high chairs & high tables remaining. We’re all over 60 yrs old & the high chairs were very uncomfortable. When then went out side to finish our drinks & returned the glasses. Incidentally we saw the small table we had first sat on; it had only 2 settings & was still unoccupied. I asked the bartender why we couldn’t have sat there as it shouldn’t have been any trouble. The bartender & a rude redhead woman became arrogantly & rudely defensive, turning a simple complaint into a ‘blown up diplomatic incident’. They then told us if we didn’t like it “don’t come back again”! I’m a local & I’ve used this pub for over 40 yrs. For that reason I found the remark particularly offensive, unnecessary, & could easily have been avoided & it was handled very badly on their side. The female member of staff was particularly rude with attitude. No wonder The Greyhound is a struggling pub with regulars migrating to the local Gladdach Ring on Church Road nearby where they’re more than welcome. There they really know what hospitality is about & better still know how to run a...
