We came to the harrow for dinner yesterday for the first time and it'll definitely be our last. We waited an hour for our food and when it finally came out we had numerous issues. The waiter bought over the burger and THREE times my brother asked if it was the ultimate burger, to which he responded yes. Eventually after the last burger was bought out (which was quite a wait as food came out as and when rather than together), the waiter told us that in fact he was now holding the ultimate burger and the previous one was a hot and spicy chicken burger. We asked if the chefs told him what he was bringing out and he said yes and admitted he just "got it wrong". The person who received the wrong burger had already covered it in sauce, so when we was finally told about the mistake by the waiter, my nephew who was supposed to be the one who had the chicken burger, was left to eat a completely different burger covered in sauce. Might not seem like a big deal to most but he has autism and food aversions. We was refunded for his burger at the end however. I ordered the roast chicken dinner but was told they were out of chicken so I ordered gammon instead. When it arrived I was shocked. 2 small pieces of fat with a tiny piece of ham on, burnt carrots, old cabbage which was a weird greyish/yellow colour, half a pot of gravy, 3 little potatoes and a Yorkshire with a teaspoon of stuffing inside. We actually questioned whether that was the children's roast dinner and we was assured it was the adults one. We spoke to the manager who agreed that the roast was bad and said it should never of come out the kitchen like that. She returned with a large plate of food but it was no better taste wise. The "ham" was mostly fat and nearly inedible, veg was raw this time, frozen undercooked roast potatoes.. it was actually the worst roast dinner I've ever eaten at any restaurant. The "sticky chicken" starter that my sister got was inedible. The "chicken" was so burnt that it was brown/black inside the coating. It was like pieces of rock. Again those were refunded. She also ordered a soup starter which claimed on the menu that it came with a slice of "fresh crusty bread".. it came with a slice of processed thin white bread you'd buy in the supermarket. I ordered dauphinoise potatoes and the woman actually read it back to us at the till before we paid, but I never got them and when I asked for a refund, I was told they weren't put through when we ordered. Everything on the table that we did receive, was mediocre at best. Undercooked or over cooked sides, my toddlers fish fingers were like planks of wood. Most of the food we ordered was left on the plates and all 10 of us including the children left hungry. We absolutely won't be returning here and I suggest if you want a decent lunch or dinner, you find...
Read moreNot impressed with the service during my last 2 visits for lunch with my sister. We had a table booked both times but had to wait over one hour at both visits, which I found unacceptable.
I thought i would try this pub again and took my friend for a meal here for her birthday on Saturday 5th April. It wasn't busy when we arrived and when I ordered our food I was told it would be half an hour, which was fine with us. We sat at a table, which did not have a reserved board on it, and had a drink while waiting for our food. After almost one & half hours later, a member of staff came over very abruptly and told us the table was booked. There was a reserved board on the table next to ours, which included our table, which we didnt notice, but there was no board on our table. I asked why our food was so late and if it had been served on time, we would have vacated the table by this time. He told us we had to move tables as there was a party of 20 booked, which included our table. His attitude was appalling, and when I asked again about our food, he agreed to issue me a refund, and said our food, which was just salad and chicken skewers, was being plated up. We were moved to another table and when the food arrived, the chicken was very dry and hard around the edges. I checked with a different member of staff before I left, that my refund had been issued, as the guy told me he was issuing it straight away, but I saw him leave the pub. It hadn't been issued by the original guy, but it was issued by someone else before I left, which i was grateful for. I doubt very much, after every experience with the service and food at this venue, that i will ever come back to this place for any food. Maybe just for a drink if i happen to be...
Read moreAs we live nearby, we really want to like The Harrow, but we don't come here very often because of the service (every now and then we give it another try, just in case) We booked using the app and arrived about 20 minutes early (we booked the earliest slot available) there were plenty of tables free. I went to the bar to get drinks to have while we were deciding what to order - there was only 1 barmaid serving, and it appeared she had to do a lot more than just serve at the bar ! We used the app to order, and straight away found out there was no roast turkey or pork loin (it was a Sunday) we chose the starter, main and dessert meal deal, so everything was ordered at the same time. It was not full up in there, and there seemed to be plenty of staff working, but there was long gaps between courses. After we had the starter, we ordered a bottle of wine (via the app) which took a long time to come, and when it did, we had to have brandy glasses as there weren't any clean wine glasses. When the main course arrived, I asked the waiter for some mustard - this never arrived at all ! We had to chase up our dessert, at which time, my wife was informed that there wasn't any profiteroles left ! There was no problem with the food at all - well cooked and tasty, it's just the sporadic service that let's it down. The staff are all very friendly and cheerful, I just can't work out why we always have a problem in here ! And the worst part is, when you order and pay using the app, you add the tip before you know there's going to be a problem ! It'll be a while before we come back, which is a shame because it's a nice pub and quite near to...
