My cohorts and I were treated absolutely horribly at this venue. Not only do you get hounded 24/7 by the intimidating and rude waiters, but we were also subject to sickening discrimination by them! As a group of 20 somethings (age not quantity) in a group of 6 for a friends birthday we were rudely approached by a waiter who happened to have a past personal relation with a member of our group, related to controversial reasons I shall not delve into for the sake of their employment. When she was assigned to bring us our drinks she immediately recognised the member of our group to which she refused to serve us the drinks we payed £30+ pounds for and asked us to leave. Upon inquiry, she refused to disclose to us why we were asked to leave and insisted to the manager in private that he make us leave without an explanation from either source. When we politely requested a refund for our unassigned drinks and the money refused in lieu of us not receiving our drinks we did not receive any help from the manager nor any other member of the faculty and our entire group was forcefully manhandled out of the premises with no explanation. When we asked for a simple refund for our non obtained drinks to the perceived management we were told to “Report it to crimestoppers” or “bog off” (for lack of a better word) which was shocking and disgusting to hear from an established faculty, including the manager telling us what the waiter had rudely exclaimed translated into Italian for my friend whom spoke the same language.I am repulsed and deeply saddened at the ridiculous way I have been treated in an established chain venue and even more so dehumanised for the way we have been treated simply because of an employee’s distaste for their customer’s race, history and preferences . If you want to attend a Wetherspoon’s venue that does not discriminate based on unprofessional personal vendettas and a lack of proper management do not visit this Wetherspoons! I am still discussing whether to open a lawsuit over this case or not as I have never been treated with such vile disrespect and a lack of humanism. I am utterly dumbfounded by the way my group was treated tonight, I was not aware such prejudices existed in this day and age. Nevertheless, I shall be contacting the head of the local faculty or larger governing corporation as I find the injustices of the discrimination and stealing of money from a desperate student customer base we have experienced rather exploitative and vile.

Late June 2025 and still very nice. I do have one complaint, and that is one or two of the manager types that work at this place are very rude at times. Either in the form of just "sniffing" at me when I said the chips were cold and unappetising or on one occasion, refusing to help a disabled lady with her drinks as she walked with sticks, and asked if they could be brought over to her table. The manager, with a "man bun" (he's gone now) just ignored her request and turned to serve the next customer. Having seen this, I carried the drinks to the table for her. I was appalled by his horrid behaviour. I think the other manager who sniffed at me because I said the chips were cold may well also have left this JDW. I feel the food has gone downhill a bit recently, smaller portions and ever rising prices, but, still great value for a cheap drink and good food in Muswell Hill, during the day. You really can't go wrong at this J.D.W. It does seem as if the day time crowd are almost entirely pensioners. This former United Dairies depot in Muswell Hill (there's a giant milk bottle outside) is as good as any Spoons I've ever been to. Warm and welcoming with an interior spread over two floors, with an almost secret grotto at the rear. Go right the way through to the back of the place and out onto the verandah and there's a "fairy walk" under the trees down into the old dairy. It's enchanting. Children will love it. Oh and there's a nice upstairs outside sitting area. Lovely local crowd, great staff and interesting building and interior. I'll give it a four star rating. P.S. to really fit in wear your jumper inside out, don't wear socks and consider a mismatched pair of shoes.

Suggesting Spoons is more often than not met with resounding groans, which unless you have a fetish for its unique brand of bleakness is entirely understandable, but once in a while one comes along that really flips the script. The Mossy Well is tucked neatly off to the side of Muswell Hill’s cute but functional roundabout we’re talking location, location, location. As standard this pub is drenched in lore, something about a magic well that cures all ailments but realistically, we’re here for the beer. In a zone that still includes the 3 for £6.50 pint bottles of Hooch deal, all the best offers are on the menu but what really sets The Mossy apart from other Spoons is its seemingly endless sprawling space. Honestly I’d been coming to this pub for years before I discovered the back garden that is almost unnecessarily large. Even with the hundreds of tables this is a high end establishment, effort was put in to this space (assumingly with the intention of winning over the affluent locals) but it shows and as such the experience is top tier. Don’t expect anything more than your average Spoons when it comes to the fare but the gloss of the decor adds to the delusion that you’re not in the UKs most (in)famous chain pub. Perfect for Ally Pally pre drinks and easily reachable via the 43 bus route. There’s much nicer pubs in London but as far as the capitals Wetherspoons offering go you won’t find much better.

This Wetherspoon: A Masterclass in How Not to Run a Pub (Despite a Goldmine Location) You know, this Wetherspoon could be an absolute gem. The location? Superb. The building itself? Charming. It truly has all the makings of a fantastic spot for a cheap pint and a bite. And then, you encounter the staff and management. Staff members are consistently unhelpful and remarkably inefficient. What follows is an experience so consistently awful, it almost feels intentional – a public experiment in how far you can push customer patience before they simply give up. My personal experiences, including app orders vanishing into the ether or arriving only after archaeological digs, are unfortunately not unique. A quick glance at other reviews reveals a collective sigh of despair from patrons who, like me, are utterly baffled. Let's break down this impressive display of dysfunction: The "Customer Service" (or lack thereof): Apparently, "rude," "abusive," and "aggressive" are the preferred adjectives for the team here. We're talking security guards who "verbally assault" you and swear in your face ("AwkwardAriya"), managers who "try to mug you off" for daring to ask where your drink is ("Lee"), and waiters who "hound" and "manhandle" patrons ("Alexia Portman"). Forget politeness; basic human decency seems to be an optional extra. The Managerial "Expertise": If you thought the front-line staff were a challenge, wait until you meet the management. From managers who won't offer a simple explanation or refund after kicking out an entire group ("Alexia Portman"), to duty managers who physically push customers and snatch phones ("Lucy Mc Math"), it's clear the fish rots from the head. Leadership by intimidation, perhaps? Or just a profound lack of training and self-awareness? Service So Slow, It's Almost Performance Art: Orders take an eternity, or simply don't materialize. This isn't due to overwhelming crowds; "Lee" points out "long waits... despite excessive staff levels and very quiet business." It's almost impressive how much inaction can occur with so many people supposedly "working." Empty glasses accumulate like monuments to forgotten service ("Sean Morley"), while staff seemingly glide past, oblivious to the chaos they've helped cultivate. In conclusion, this Wetherspoon is a prime example of a fantastic location being systematically undermined by its own operations. It’s a crying shame that such a potentially great pub is allowed to operate with such glaring deficiencies in staff conduct, managerial oversight, and basic service. Management, if you're reading this, your establishment is a goldmine being squandered. Comprehensive training, accountability, and a complete overhaul of customer interaction are not just recommended, they are desperately overdue. Otherwise, your prime location will forever be known as the place where good...

Waited for 10 minutes at bar. Bar lady kept serving people who had only just stepped up to the bar. Finally believed I was about to be served but instead she served the guy next to me. I pointed out that I had been waiting ages only for the guy being served to launch into a tirade of abuse, telling me I should develop manners when speaking to a lady (the barmaid) and informing me that I haven't been raised correctly. Meanwhile the barmaid was smirking to herself and exchanging sly glances with the other bar staff. Even much later, 30 minutes later in the pub, a young bar man passed me, must have remembered the situation earlier and started smirking to himself. The phenomena of bar staff not serving people in the right order happens every time I've visited this pub. I only started going here because it's much cheaper than other pubs in the area. The bar staff project a "couldn't care less" attitude. I find the circumstances of my last visit there particularly disgusting because the rude customer was taking advantage of the amateur barmaid so he could get served first. Then the barmaid, rather than sort things out, continued to serve him anyway and found it all dreadfully funny. That I was being humiliated seemed to be a big joke for them. Aside from that it's difficult to find a seat, the throngs of human traffic manoeuvring around the premises eliminates any hope for peace, likewise it's overlit, the huge open plan floor space doesn't allow for any intimacy. It really just feels like a giant soulless money-making machine. Wherever you sit you're in direct eyesight of six hundred people. I'm going to find a new pub with more atmosphere, darker lighting, nooks and crannies, friendly customers, where the staff serve customers in the right order and don't take sides with people who push in the queue who then abuse those they are pushing...
