đ Queens Road Peckam đşÂ ÂŁ4.60 Fosters
The Olde Apple Tree is tucked away in a residential area at the northern end of Peckham. The nearest station is Queens Road Peckham.
The pub was built in 1871. The area around the pub was extensively redeveloped in the early 1970s, traditional housing was demolished and replaced by new council houses, thankfully the pub survived.
This is a two bar pub which is traditionally decorated with an oldschool 1980âs pub feel. The servery is centrally located and straddles both bars. The Saloon bar is on the left and has plenty of seating, a fine fireplace and a superb pub carpet. To right is the Public bar which has two dartboards and a pool table. The walls are clad in wood panelling and have lots of photos of boxers and an original Evening Standard paper from the 1966 World Cup final. There is a small covered smoking area at the back and a patio area at the front for the warmer months.
The beer line up was a straightforward selection of keg beers. I decided on a pint of Fosters, my pint was decent, price point was less than a fiver (cash only). This is a wet-led pub that doesnât serve food.
I arrived around 1.30pm on a showery Saturday lunchtime in August. The pub was quiet with a couple of regulars and Irish Guvânor Sean in attendance. I pulled up a stool at the bar and got chatting to Sean about the pub and he mentioned that the pub is in bad need of repair and that he wants to knock it down and rebuild it due to the cost of maintenance. I also got chatting to one of the regulars who was telling about his drinking escapades across London, funny fella. A big shout out to the lady serving, she was warm, welcoming and friendly.
I left The Olde Apple Tree with a tinge of sadness, thinking about the future of this wonderful backstreet local. It seems that someday soon this pub will be reduced to rubble and all those social interactions since Victorian times will fall silent. If you want to see how a London pubs looked in their heyday, get yourself over to this fantastic oldschool boozer.

Tucked away on Sumner Road, The Olde Apple Tree stands as a stubborn relic of old London pub culture. In a neighbourhood where sleek wine bars and sourdough cafĂŠs are multiplying, this place holds its groundâwith wood-panelled walls, a jukebox by the door, and a crowd that knows how to tell a story.
Atmosphere Itâs proper old-school. Think darts, horse racing on the telly, and the kind of bar chatter that flows freely between strangers. The interiors are worn but warm, with a games room that hosts pool matches and laughter in equal measure. Outside, the foliage is surprisingly lushârumour has it, the small trees actually bear apples.
Drinks & Details This is a Guinness pub, and they pour it with pride. Youâll also find classic lagers, spirits served without fuss, and the occasional packet of Tayto crispsâa nod to the Irish roots of the proprietor. No cocktail list, no QR codes, and no card payments. Itâs cash-only, and...
