Absolutely shocking, I ordered a mixed grill, which came out looking fantastic. However, when I dipped a chip into the peppercorn sauce, it had what I thought was small chips in it. I thought they couldn't be chips. Maybe they are mushrooms. I bit into one and found it was a burnt hard chip that tasted as though it had been cooked ages ago. I believe the sauce was probably made from someone's leftovers. When I told the barman he was polite and brought me a new jug of sauce. I decided that I didn't want the meal after that. He was fine with that and said he would have to send the manageress over. She was also polite and agreed to give me a refund. As I walked out and checked the amount, I was refunded. They had charged me for the half bottle of coke that I had not finished due to not wanting to eat a meal, which I believe had served with some leftovers. I went back and brought this up with the manageress and was met with the reply. Ahhh come on ! As though I was being unreasonable for expecting to not have to pay for my half drunk coke. She then offered in a not very polite way to give me the money for the drink. I told her it was not about the money but a matter of principle, and I thought I should not have charged as a matter of decency. I requested that she put the money for the coke into the poppy jar, which she didn't while I was there or immediately after. In all, a shocking experience that should have been dealt with a lot more decency than it was by...
Read moreI would have rated this place one star based on my latest experience, but hope I was just unlucky with the members of staff present on the day. Loads of issues...First, the two members of staff who were on rota were both extremely rude, to us and the customers sitting behind us: unwelcoming, condescending, unfriendly. They also didn't want us to order normally, but they insisted we used the app. I understand covid safety concerns, but the place was empty and we could have ordered from our table outside. Forcing customers to use the app is discriminating as a) it doesn't account for people who don't have data on their phone to download the app b) it doesn't account account people who don't have phones or who aren't comfortable with technology. Second , the place wasn't that clean ( eg as one one wine glass was quiete dirty when it arrived to us; there wasn't hand sanitiser outside anywhere to be seen). Third, the food really wasn't good. We got sandwiches and a couple of starters and the bread was quiete chewy and the fried food heavier than it should have been. It's a shame as there is a nice outdoor space, it's a nice building placed in a convenient location, and the pub would have the potential to be a great place for the local community to gather safely... I hope management will take this feedback on board and ensure members of staff are more professional...
Read moreService at the bar was nice. The food took ages to arrive, even though the place was not busy, more than 1hr. Staff was polite and welcoming, the drinks (nice IPA's) and the staff earn the place 2 stars. The food itself was of mediocre to poor quality. My wife had the tomato soup which was one of the worst she's ever had, straight out of the tin can, the ciabatta that came with it was burned. My steak sandwich was a joke, a tiny bit of meat inside 2 tiny baguette slices with a LOT of balsamic reduced red onion chutney, with chips from the frozen section. My boys had the brown bread bacon sandwich which was literally 2 slices of bacon between 2 slices of brown bread, that's it. The other one had some kind of char grilled chicken breast which he did finish, but then again he's always hungry and always finishing his food, to me it did not look appetising at all. He then had the Eton Mess for desert which was 2 scoops of something that looks frozen and gooey at the same time, no sight of fruit or merengue. Again probably from the frozen section. We actually left hungry. Thank god I've ordered extra chips, which even though from the frozen bag were still better than the rest of the food. Happy to come back for a pint, but will...
