I had a tempuri king prawns starter and rigatoni bolognese main. I enjoyed it very much at the time and then a few hours later i started to feel a bit ill. I had not eaten breakfast on this day and had eaten nothing since. Around 5 hours later i threw up, which was the first non alcohol induced vomit i had done in 15 years. Avoid these menu items if you value your stomach. Otherwise a decent place.

Edit: i later threw up a further 3 times an hour later and had horrible diarrhea, do not buy or consume the shrimp here

Response:

Hello, many thanks for your response. I believe the record of communication regarding this matter is this here review, I am unsure how else you want me to contact you regarding this experience as I clearly did not seek reparations or my money back, simply to inform the public as to my experience on a public forum. I could have reached out privately perhaps but I wish simply to put this experience behind me and contribute to public wellbeing. I can't really be more specific about my experience beyond telling you the only two dishes I ate and the date at which I ate them, but I was in the restaurant from 13:13 to 14:48 on the day of my initial review.

I'm sure your other reviewers had a lovely time and I'm pleased to see no one else suffered as I did from the dishes I ate, but as you can see I left 5 star reviews for atmosphere and service, so I am not out to simply tarnish the name of your restaurant but leave an informative account of my experience. I appreciate your offer to reach out directly but feel it would be an insult to the public health not to leave this warning. My review was nothing if not genuine, and I sincerely hope it was an isolated incident.

If you still doubt my words or, god forbid, my integrity, then I can attach a photo of my still-vomit-splattered boots, as they are still unfortunately stained with the food I ate at this restaurant. I will clean them when I get a chance, as I am a very...

This was not an experience that I wish to repeat. Our party had a booking for 7, the service was appallingly slow, for context, our main did not arrive until 9:10. 2 hours to be served your main is completely unacceptable, considering we were ready to order 5 mins into our booking and had ordered our mains alongside our starters.

To the food itself... ÂŁ6 a starter or 4 for ÂŁ20 sounds reasonable, until you see how tiny these starters are. To go from that, to then a very long wait for my main, I was more hungry after the starter than before I came in.

I would understand if the delay to our mains (put down to order volume in the kitchen or something) was communicated to us during our stay but we had to ask.

The main itself was OK, I picked the cod and potatoes, a pretty bland option so I can't really make a comment on taste. The cod itself was very small and I finished the meal in minutes, still hungry after. But because of the mess up with our meal, I just wanted to pay the bill and go.

Ah...the bill. When it eventually came, they added a beer we had sent back and of course added a "service" charge for absolutely no service. They did however sort this out for us, removing said beer and the service charge and offered a round of Bailey's to make up for the order delay but we're then stood about our table rushing us to leave. We entered the restaurant at 7 and left near 10, with every other person coming in after us being served before us.

The restaurant is clean and looks nice, staff were friendly enough, when they were bothered to come to our table, however pulling down your face mask to talk to customers? What's the point of having one on?

Not an experience I will repeat, ever again. My family speak highly of this restaurant and we are local, however I will never set foot in this restaurant again. We came very close to paying for our starters and drinks and going home. Plenty of other options in the area to...

Don’t go here if you have an allergy or intolerance. I went to Harpers for New Year and paid 75 pounds a person. I spoke to the waitress about my serious intolerance to paprika. She told me it was on the calamari but I could have it plain. When the food was brought to the table I was given my meal by a different person. I started eating it and to my horror saw it had paprika all over it. I spoke to the waitress and told her and she told me I had the wrong one. My husband had been given mine. However it was too late I had eaten some of the paprika. I was very unwell the next day when the intolerance kicked in. I phoned the owner and explained how unwell I was, only to be told it was my fault as I should have noticed it wasn’t plain. This really upset me especially after spending in excess of 200 pounds for me and my husband I will not be returning. Such a silly mistake that should never...

I do not normally write reviews and offer recommendations however I have been compelled to write this regarding Harper’s. We have been to the restaurant 4 times this week and the latest last night was just absolutely fantastic, I cannot thank James, Andrei and the team at Harper’s for the most amazing evening and week. We’ve been working our way through the cocktail list and the extensive wine menu and last night’s food was just divine if you haven’t had the ribs yet, they are without doubt the best I have ever had!! The friendly atmosphere and fantastic staff will keep us coming back to this fabulous restaurant time and time again thank you so much! In today’s world we need to support the local independent businesses and without doubt this is a business worth supporting. Please book up a table and enjoy this place to it’s fullest. Great dinning atmosphere, delicious food and some of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. The food was spot on, the starters provide a nice variation from the usual set you'd expect to see. The fried padron peppers are great and really bring out the natural flavours of the pepper, the ribs fall of the bone and have a wonderful flavour with a great dry rub base. The burger is a really nice balance of flavour nothing too overpowering and the harpers burger sauce is super tasty. The desserts are full of super sweet treats the chocolate filled donuts are amazing especially as they taste super fresh and must be made to order as they genuinely taste that good. I recommend that any trips here involve trying the ammereto sour and lady in red cocktails ....great flavour balance with a super sweet kick 👏 👌

Went to Harpers for dinner with the other half and was pleasantly surprised as I wasn't expecting much for a mid-week outing. The decor was on point and the ambience was warm and inviting. The seating was cosy enough for a couple on a date. Even better was the service and staff, again, warm and friendly. The food was delicious even if not extraordinary. We enjoyed the starters a lot. The pricing wasn't exorbitant at all. Overall, a totally enjoyable and relaxing evening in a cosy, friendly local restaurant at a price-point that didn't break the bank. What's there not to be happy about? I might even be tempted back soon!
