The pub advertises itself as family friendly before 8pm in the evening. We took our two children there this evening to meet their 96 year great grandmother (who has just flown from Cape Town) and were abused by a fellow patron who told us we were bad parents and should control our children. The man was possibly drunk, and the noise that he was complaining about was our three year old boy who was crying after he had bumped his head. He threatened to hit the children's 70 year old Grandfather and told him to f* off when their Grandpa challenged him.
The outrageous behaviour of this man was not the fault of the pub, but I do think the staff should have acted swiftly to remove this patron from the pub, whereas he was allowed to stay as long as he liked, glowering at us and continuing to call us bad parents. Both of our children were in tears because of this.
Following this it took nearly an hour for our food to arrive, by which time, it was time for the children to leave. When I asked if the children bangers and mash could be put in a take away container, so they could eat them at home, the bar lady was rude to me, telling me that a takeout was not doable, and the best they could do was wrap the children's bangers, mash and gravy in foil. Clearly not an option with a meal like that.
I felt our evening meal was totally spoilt by the threatening behaviour of this patron and rudeness of the bar lady. Other members of staff it should be noted were very polite and helpful, but I think if I'd been running the place I would have falling over myself to make our evening a pleasurable one, in light of the abuse, threats and rudeness we were...
Read moreI've been going here regularly for the last few months and thought it was time to leave a review.
Like others have said, this pub is fantastic and, even though its a little far to be considered my local, it has become my local!
The pub itself is nicely decorated and kept very clean and tidy. It has a cosy fireplace area that is sometimes used for open mic nights and for showing sporting events. If this isn't your thing, then the other side of the pub has no TV screens and allows for relaxed conversation even on busy evenings.
The drink options are very good and they have guest beers that change regularly. I'm not a huge beer drinker but I never struggle to find a beer that I like. The wine is very good for a pub too, which was a pleasant surprise to me. (I'm sure I will work my way through the whole list in time!)
The food is fantastic and have yet to have a bad meal here. I recommend the Korean chicken wings as an appetiser, and the steak or pork belly are my personal favorite main courses.
And last, but by no means least, the staff are excellent! So polite, hardworking and friendly. The staff are actually one of the main reasons we keep coming back here and we are made to feel very welcome. So if you do go and have a meal here, please do leave a tip as the staff absolutely deserve it!
Looking forward to going...
Read moreFood quality has gone downhill massively in the past year. I'm curious as to what has changed, but it feels hit and miss as to whether your meal will be nice, or feel like it's just been chucked in the microwave. Not sure if they've changed kitchen staff, or ingredients, but my last meal was massively disappointing and has put me off returning for food. The person I was eating with, agreed it wasn't very good and left the majority of their food. We were compensated with a couple of free drinks, but it was still a very awkward situation. Considering the price for a burger was upwards of £13 (if I recall correctly), I'd rather have had a burger from a chicken shop (that's saying a lot)...
An okay selection of beers on draught, though doesn't compete with the selection at a couple of other local pubs.
Drinks prices are slightly better than other local pubs, though considering it's zone 3/4, I find ÂŁ5 - ÂŁ6 a lot for a pint, especially with a fantastic Wetherspoons just 10 minutes away, where you're able to get a pint of Brewdog for half the price of a basic lager at this place.
I don't know, it's a shame. This used to be my regular and I enjoyed the food, atmosphere and drinks. Since Covid, it really has gone down hill quite a bit, especially the food. The drinks selection no longer competes with the local Spoons, or...
