Firstly, it’s not a micropub by any strict definition – piped music (albeit classic rock) puts pay to that. But it not unreasonable to call it a craft beer bar or taproom with a healthy range of craft keg beers if that your thing. But it does have cask with a number of firkins stacked up in a little cooled chamber behind the bar.
Whether cask sales suffer because of the list of megahopped loonyjuices I don’t know but it’s good to see craft beer bar entrepreneurs are still making the effort - too many bars and taprooms in London seem to fear wastage or see insufficient profits from or just can’t be bothered with cask beer.
Will this place damage trade for the Long Pond? I don’t know but its location is better for passing trade even if it is quietly tucked behind Wetherspoons. No doubt the rent is higher though.
My visit saw only two cask beers on sale: a pale from Siren and a dark bitter from Kent. Sadly the unusual porter on show was unavailable.
The room is quite large for a micropub but perhaps it benefits from that with space to spread out. But it’s decorated in a rough and ready way with salvaged furniture and all the better for all that.
And the Yorkshire made pork pies are just fine.
Three or four casks on and I’d probably have gone with...
Read moreWe found this Pub on our way to Church when a gust of wind blew us in here (imagine that?) And it has now become our NEW place of Worship.
You might get baptized if you are rude to the staff, but there's no need to be, because they are ALL brilliantly kind, helpful and wonderful.
They have a BIBLICAL selection of tasty/unique beers.
And sometimes when you're at the bar, you will hear people say "Jesus" under their breath. (That's because some of the beers are very strong and served in a 1/3 - so they are calling on the good Lord to save them from a demonic hangover 👿).
If you say your prayers religiously before you go to the Church of Bucket - you will almost always find a NEW brew in here - EVERY single week. And they do cheese toasties every weekend, that are so delicious - you might think you have died and gone to heaven. But not really. You'll just be in the Rusty Bucket. The most unique and BEST pub in Eltham. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord. Bless you my...
Read moreHave been here 3 weeks in a row now and the standard of the beers each time has been high. Served at the right temp and with an ever changing list of new cask ales to try each week they are a great addition to the craft beer scene. They are slightly different from other craft places in that they do have music on in the background and sometimes put the TV on for special occasions. (World Cup). Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and care about their beers - the lady there wouldn't serve me a beer when I ordered it at first as she hadn't tried it. Once she had tasted it and was satisfied, she served me the pint....
