đMile End đşÂ ÂŁ5.60 Madri â¤ď¸ East End values are alive and well.
The Wentworth Arms is located in a quiet backstreet just off busy Mile End Road. The nearest Tube station is Mile End which is just at the end of Eric Street.
The pub was built in 1864 and is the last remnant of Victorian London on this street. This corner pub was originally a Charringtons pub, If you look closely at the leaded windows youâll see green stained glass which was a Charringtons hallmark. Charringtons Brewery started life in Bethnal Green in 1757. The Anchor Brewery by Stepney Green Tube was their last brewery in this area, some of the original offices buildings remain on the corner of Mile End Road and Cephas Avenue.
This is a small but perfectly formed boozer that has one bar and a beer garden at the rear. The pub is traditionally decorated with pale wainscotted walls that are adorned by a few prints and photos, my favourite being a black and white photo of the regulars off on a Jolly Boys Outing. The servery is a good size, to the left is an oche and dart board. The seating is a mix of upholstered pews and circular stools around solid wood tables, there are also a few high level stools if you want to prop up the bar. There is also a Fruity and a decent Jukebox.
The beer line up was solid and had a bit of something for everyone but no cask. I settled on a pint of Madri, my pint was excellent, price point was below average. The pub doesnât have a food menu, between me and you, it doesnât need one.
I last visited here in July 2017, Iâm happy to report that not much has changed. We arrived at 12pm on a Saturday lunchtime and received a warm welcome and were made to feel right at home. We got chatting to one of the regulars who had drunk in here for years, he had us in stitches, then his mate walked in and the banter went up a notch. There were a few other punters at the back of the bar who were clearly enjoying their lunchtime pints. This pub puts on loads of entertainment and events which continues to galvanise the loyal locals and attract those who need a bit of a push to get out and about. Throughout the month there are Live music and Karaoke nights, Drag Bingo plus Loads of community events throughout the year.
When I last walked out of these doors, I said to myself ânow thatâs a proper East End boozerâ. On this visit, I did exactly the same, both my mates said âwhat a great pub that isâ the_wentworth_arms is proof that East End values of hospitality, community and sharp wit are alive and well in this wonderful establishment. This is an outstanding pub.

Read moreI pondered into the wentworth arms, after hearing about the ecstatic community pub hidden round the corner of Mile End station.
After recently moving to east London I took it upon myself to enter the small cornered pub and to my surprise it exceeded all expectations.
From the music, to staff, locals, bingo + live music events and selection of drinks, the wentworth arms completed the ideal pub.
I ordered a pint of Guinness. The perfect pour, ( i must say) from a bartender with such charisma and politeness.
Known for its Guinness, it didnât disappoint. As I sat round gazing across the decor, so much personality and history was graced around the bar. From pictures of residence at previous events to historical memorabilia about the east end.
This is a true British pub. One of very little in London that hold such character and simplicity, and most importantly bring the east London community together.

Read moreWe live directly across the street from the pub, and honestly, we feel lucky to have it on our doorstep. Itâs so much more than just a place to have a drink itâs a proper community hub. Thereâs always a friendly face, a warm welcome, and a real sense of togetherness that you just donât get many places anymore.
The team who run it are always respectful of the neighbourhood. Yes, thereâs the usual buzz of life youâd expect from a pub, but itâs never anything more than that and frankly, itâs lovely to hear people laughing and enjoying themselves.
Over the years, weâve seen how important this place is to people. It brings neighbours together, helps tackle loneliness, and keeps the street feeling lively and safe. We genuinely think the street would feel lost without it.
Weâre proud to have it right across the road. Long may...
