Tiny main meals and attempted price increase after ordering.
Terrible place. Was suspicious when we arrived, as all of the restaurants in the area were buzzing and full at 7pm on a nice summer's day, and this was empty. Only two mains to choose from - Fish or Paella, so I chose the fish, a John Dory 250grams as specified on the menu for 20. 10 mins after ordering, the waiter returned and said the fish was actually 28 instead of 20, and gave me a second new menu with the higher price on it, and asked if it was OK - I said it was not, and that in 30 years of eating in restaurants, no-one had tried to increase the price of an item after I had ordered it. The manager then came by and said they would keep the original price - thanks so much!
I had assumed by this point that the meal would not be good when it arrived - and my expectations were met. A tiny, overcooked, bony fish arrived, with less than 80g of meat on it on the last third of the fish, which was supposed to be a main meal. See the attached photo of my "Main Meal" before I started! I immediately said I didn't want it, and having seen a neighbouring table looking miserable with the only other main, a tiny one-layer of rice Paella for 30, said I didn't want to eat a different dish. Manger said I couldn't refuse the dish which I had not yet eaten and I had to pay for it - it was the strange attitude of the manager that got me grumpy, no apologies of any kind, no offer of any kind to put things right/make up for the poor meal - and not letting me return a uneaten meal. Summary - Tiny portions even for mains, poor service, attempted increases in price after ordering, zero for...
Read moreI was really excited to eat at this restaurant as I keep seeing that the tables are always full. However, it was a huge disappointment. We arrived at 8pm and our food still wasn't at the table at 9pm. We waited 30 mins for a glass of wine to arrive and had to remind twice. There's a very limited menu and they had run out of 4 things on the menu (there's a total of 9 dishes I believe). Even the gordal olives and bread&olive we ordered arrived an hour late. And the bread was only small crackers with no olive oil to accompany it. We expected the main dishes, which was the seafood paella and the watermelon&feta salad, to be larger portions but they were like appetisers. There were only crumbs of feta on the salad, we had to ask for additional feta. And there were only 2 small pieces of calamari on the seafood paella and the plate itself was definitely not something you would expect as a main. They had run out of the two most popular tapas dishes which were patron peppers and Jamon croquetas and after some time we were told that they "found" some peppers and croquetas so we managed to get those. The service was alright, but the quality and the portions of the food were very, very disappointing. I will not be back at Trangallan and do not recommend it to hungry people who want to be full after they pay...
Read moreI've dined at this restaurant on multiple occasions now and look forward to visiting again soon. Just about to book and noticed the reviews here so thought I would get involved..Pricey? - yes, worth it though? - hell yes! If you want very good food and a cool menu in London it will usually cost you. Great setting, really cool refurb and decor (I remember the old cafe here years ago, it's amazing how they've changed things). All wines that I have tried have been fantastic, that includes the house red. The octopus is always the main event for me, some very good veg dishes and the meats are very tasty and cooked medium to rear which brings out the taste very well. There's always an explosion of taste and it really is different from any other tapas I have tried. Definitely a place I would recommend you try out. *I agree on the olives though - the terrible large light green ones which I absolutely hate -...
