This was one of my favourite pubs in the area for the great atmosphere, ample space and family friendly environment which we enjoyed both in the summer and winter months previously. However after my last visit this weekend, which was for my birthday celebration, I may not return sadly. Firstly, it was very difficult to reserve an area for our party. I requested an area for our guests (approximately 16 people) from lunch through to evening. I was told that they only took reservations for sit down meals and if we went with that option they would charge us £5 for every guest who didn't turn up. I explained that even though people intended to have both food and drinks at the pub, guests would arrive at different times and we were planning to be there for a few hours. We were offered a private room with minimum spend £500, which for our party of 16 people was unreasonable. In the end we turned up on the day and found ourselves a table, which was quite close to the bar, admittedly not the best location both for us and the bar staff. Had they allocated us a table originally we wouldn't be taking up that busy space. Our party were there from 1pm until 7pm and we spent a considerable amount of money (we had a tab at the bar and nearly all guests ordered food). With the exception of one member of staff that I can recall, the rest were very short with us from the beginning and mostly rude throughout the evening. The shift manager had an altercation with one of our guests because he was standing near the bar (in a pub!) and the staff refused to serve him beyond that point. Another member of staff kept kicking our buggies (we had three families with children) every time she passed through our table, presumably because they were blocking the way? If our party was inconveniencing the staff in any way they could have discussed this with us rather than behave in a most unprofessional and unpleasant manner. In the end they refused to serve our table (!!!!) - I suppose they were satisfied with the amount they had made on us by that point - which resulted in us leaving to go to the Herne Tavern next door (which may well become the pub of our preference from now on). I would have forgiven the average food and inconvenience in trying to book a space. But rudeness and aggressive behaviour on a special occasion is unacceptable. In the past I would have highly recommended this pub but not any more for all the...
Read moreI haven't been to Watson's General Telegraph Pub, even though it looks delightful, however I did order food from Bang Bang Burgers via Uber Eats app, which makes all the food for Watson's General Telegraph Pub. I had heard of Bang Bang Burgers previously and thought it was yet another burger restaurant joining the gourmet burger ranks... yet I was wrong! This place is truly remarkable, in my opinion, definitely head and shoulders above other top gourmet burger restaurants, with excellent presentation from packaging, labelling, and using wholly plant based materials for all containers/ packaging ensuring sustainability and eco-friendly ethical responsibility throughout their business model and practice! Now let's get on to the menu and burgers... I ordered pretty much the whole of the Uber Eats menu for a gathering I had, the different varieties of burgers, brilliantly well thought fillings which complimented the delicious succulent Angus beef patties, encompassed in the freshly baked soft brioche buns. Suffice to say, all of the burgers went down a treat! The Bourbon chicken wings and Buffalo hot sauce wings were beautifully presented on a bed of multicolored peppers, spring onions, shallots. Perfectly cooked, sauce was just right, not too much where it completely smothers the wings - as I've had at other take away establishments - but perfectly seasoned and tender. The macaroni cheese balls absolutely blew my mind! Never had I tried macaroni cheese balls like this! They were freshly cooked, huge and simply delicious! I've had them in different restaurants and they certainly don't match up to Bang Bang Burgers quality. The service, especially from owner, Eddie, was above and beyond, there were a few issues with Uber Eats app when ordering, and he ensured everything went smoothly! A huge thank you to Eddie and his team! I highly recommend trying out this place, or ordering Bang Bang Burgers via Uber Eats (or other apps), if you want to try the best burgers in town, you certainly have come to the right place! 5 stars...
Read moreHad a booking for 4 people and a baby. We clearly stated in the booking notes that we needed a high chair and space for a pram so you’d think someone would have actually read them. When we arrived, the place was chaotic, packed for a Halloween event that we were never told about when booking. If anyone had actually looked at our notes, they’d have realised this wasn’t the right setting for a young family.
To make it worse, someone was already sitting at our table. We were told to wait while they were moved hardly a great start. When I asked if the table was near the function, they said yes. I explained that my partner is a nursing mother and asked if there was a quieter spot, like one of the booths outside. The supervisor came out and flatly said no, claiming they were “unaware of a baby when we booked.” I pointed out that we’d asked for a high chair and space for a pram who exactly did he think those were for?
His response was unbelievable: “It’s the table inside or nothing what do you expect on a Saturday night at 7pm?” That comment said it all. As if being parents means we should just stay at home and not be allowed to enjoy a simple meal out. Our child was treated like an inconvenience rather than a person.
We decided to leave not because it was busy, but because of the rudeness and complete lack of respect.
Awful customer service and an outdated attitude. If you’re a parent or just expect basic decency, avoid this place. They clearly haven’t caught up with the idea that families also deserve to eat out and be treated...
