The WORST restaurant I have EVER been too. I never write reviews when I haven’t liked something just incase it was a one off, but due to this being so terrible it has to be done. The food was AWFUL, 2 out of the 4 of us bit into our chicken & found a bone, bones in the chicken which was very offputting, 2 out of the 4 was outside smoking, when I bit into bone I then went outside also due to feeling really sick, the staff then took our plates of the table where the last person was eating (the bone was in a i tissue I spat it in on the plate) when I then came back in and the last person was finished with the food we then asked for the bill & I explained about the bone, they was not understanding at all & refused to do anything because we did not show the bone, I was trying to explain I didn’t get a chance too because when I went of feeling sick they had taken the plate with the bone in the tissue, therefor did not have the chance to show them, they was very rude & refused to accommodate, they also kept repeating that “the chef is certain there was no bones” blatantly excusing us of lying & not taking accountability, ontop of that the curry’s tasted VERY sicky & not right. When we got home one of us was on the toilet & 2 of us had cramps. The staff was also not friendly at all & it did not give off a good atmosphere, they did not once come over to ask if we was enjoying it they also only asked once if we wanted anything to drink. I am Very dissatisfied & disappointed.

The response is a TOTAL lie. No discount was asked of at all & I said over & over again the bone was in the tissue on the plate which was taken! You claim ‘boneless chicken’ but why did two of us find bones then? also after finding the bone I did not eat anymore of my curry AT ALL! my plate had a lot of food left on it! Only 2 out of the 4 of us had eaten the food. The 2 of us that found a bone left our food. & just to add we have all been unwell today, being sick & on the toilet! there is no need to lie. Thankyou for your response & I hope your restaurant...

Absolutely Outstanding Experience at Mallus Restaurant!

If you’re craving authentic South Indian flavors that transport you straight to Kerala or Tamil Nadu, then look no further than Mallus Restaurant. I visited recently and was absolutely blown away by the food, the ambiance, and the incredible hospitality.

Let’s start with the Masala Dosa – hands down one of the best I’ve ever had! The dosa was perfectly crisp on the outside while soft and tender inside, with a flavorful potato masala that was both hearty and subtly spiced. It came with a trio of chutneys (coconut, tomato, and mint) and a piping hot bowl of sambar that was rich, aromatic, and seasoned just right. Every bite was a beautiful blend of textures and tastes. If you’re a dosa lover, this one is a must-try – it’s clear the chefs here know what they’re doing.

Beyond the masala dosa, the menu is extensive and showcases a variety of South Indian and Kerala-style specialties. We also tried the appam with vegetable stew and a plate of Kerala parotta with chicken curry – both absolutely delicious. The flavors are authentic, the ingredients taste fresh, and the spice levels are balanced to perfection.

The restaurant itself is clean, cozy, and has a warm, welcoming vibe. The staff were courteous, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the food they serve. You can tell this is a place that takes pride in offering a true taste of home-cooked South Indian cuisine.

Prices are reasonable considering the quality of food and portion sizes. It’s also worth noting that vegetarian and vegan options are well represented, which makes it a great place for groups with different dietary needs.

Overall, Mallus Restaurant is a hidden gem that deserves a lot more attention. Whether you’re a seasoned lover of South Indian cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place will leave you satisfied and craving more. I will definitely be returning – and bringing friends and family with me next time.

Don’t miss the masala dosa – it’s not just food, it’s...

We were a little late, so all our food came up together, which wasn’t an issue really, but it would have been nice to be told! The food was very good. The one thing that always annoys me, is when you ask for a take away, they give you the take away dishes and a spoon to serve it your self. This never happens in Surrey or London in any restaurant I have been in. So I have a rule, if this happens in a restaurant, I DO NOT LEAVE A TIP! I expect good service, when I leave a tip. Not to have to serve my self!

Thank you for your explanation and for engaging with our feedback.

To clarify our point: we were not asking you to pack food from our individual plates. We were ansking only the food that remained in the original serving dish (the dish in which you initially served it), with its serving spoon. That food had not been touched, eaten from, or transferred to individual plates by us.

We appreciate that hygiene and food safety are paramount. According to UK food hygiene laws and the guidance from the Food Standards Agency, food businesses must maintain strict controls to prevent contamination, especially for ready-to-eat foods. The Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2013 (which implement Regulation (EC) No. 852/2004) require food handlers to protect food from contamination at all stages.

Since our request concerned untouched food still in the controlled serving vessel, it seems reasonable (if handled with clean utensils and packaging) to allow staff to transfer that food, under controlled conditions, into takeaway containers. We simply wanted to clarify that distinction.

We hope this clarifies our position and that it might help avoid further misunderstandings with other diners.

Best...

We chose Mallus to have kerala food on Onam day! It was a pleasant experience overall. The food was good and Gerald, the waiting staff was exemplary with his service. The starters meen polichathu was small but very tasty and the chicken lolly pops was a hit with our kids, the masala was very well made. The drumsticks were cooked well except for a couple which could have been cooked a little longer! The mains, Tapioca, parotta, beef fry and chicken biryani were all top class!! Exceptionally well made with kerala touch. We loved the food and ambience. Great place for a family feast!! Hello this is our third time at Mallus, and we weren't let down with the service or the ambience or the portions of the food. Although, this time our choices of food did bring out some areas of weakness in the restaurants offer. For starters we had the Prawn coconut (konju) soup and lentil soup but both were very average. This time we ordered veg meal (assuming it would be a proper kerala thali), instead it turned out to be a typical veg meal with basmati rice! Secondly the lamb biryani was average and to make things worse it had raisins in it! I appreciate it may be a liking for some but certainly not for the south indians. The parotta was great and Fish pollichathu (Tillapia) wrapped in banana leaf wasn't upto the mark either. Overall it was an average food this time but the experience was good.

Visited this restuarant for dinner. The ambience was good and there was attention to detail in how the interiors and decor has been done. We ordered Lime juice, Appam, Beef Ularthiyathu, Kozhi curry and Pazhampori (Plantain Fry) Appam was lacy on the edges although by the time it was served it was cold. Beef Ularthiyathu did have authentic Kerala flavours although the portion size was quite not worth the £13.50 that’s charged (as seen on the pictures) Kozhi curry and Pazham pori was a huge disappointment. Kozhi curry taste was no where even remotely close to anything South Indian or even Indian for that matter. An average UK supermarket Chicken Korma/tikka masala would fare better than this. The masalas tasted raw as well. Pazham pori tasted stale and the batter coating was not crisp at all. The portion sizes served again was quite small. Lime juice was fair enough. Overall read the reviews here to go there and the food was not according to our expectations at all. We do visit quite a lot of South Indian restaurants in and around London and other parts of UK as well and there is clearly lots of room for improvement for the flavours and food served here.

To be honest, anyone who wants to waste their money should go to this terrible restaurant. Yesterday, we ordered a takeaway and got the Chilli Paneer, which cost £7.45. However, when I opened the container, there were hardly four pieces of paneer, and that was it. Nothing matched the price. Items that we ordered like samosas(3 minuscule- £4.99), coconut chutney(so watery) and cauliflower Manchurian were all JUST MInUSCULE. And it cost me an overall £20 which was a total waste of money. Please avoid going to this restaurant. Please shut the restaurant. Hello, My review is completely honest based on my experience at your restaurant. Your response was filled with sarcasm, and I wonder if you have ever dined at any restaurants in the UK. If you had, you would understand how much they charge for such minuscule portions. Your reply is unfounded, and I suspect that many of your reviews are not from real customers, but rather fabricated by your team. How can you justify charging £7.49 for just six pieces of paneer, which is the price of a main portion? Every time I visit your restaurant, it’s almost empty, and now I understand why! 🤣
