Ocean — Restaurant in Maldon

Called Ocean to make a booking. They stated a service charge was mandatory. After checking online to see if it's legal for restaurants to force a mandatory service charge, it's not(no restaurant can force a service charge). When I informed them of this, they dismissed me and abruptly ended the call. Silly way of doing business especially when they charge more than other restaurants. If the company is reading this, the reason we have service charges was because staff didn't get paid enough by the restaurant owners. We had heard good things so thought we would try it. We placed the order at 6.37pm, they told us food would be an hour which we thought was quite a while but it was a Friday night so we understood. At around 7.55pm we phoned as it still hadn't arrived. They told us it hadn't even been processed so they will push it through now and will be 20 mins. It finally arrived at 9pm, luke warm. This place used to be very good. Over the last year prices have increased, menu choices lessened, and food quality/taste not as good as it used to be. We used to look forward to our visits despite the 35 minute journey, but after our last two visits - the latest today - we've decided it's no longer worth putting ourselves to travel there. Bottom line is, if you're in Maldon and fancy Chinese food, it's worth a look in. Sadly though, it's no longer as special as it used to be and you can probably get better Chinese...
