One of the best vegan spots in Manchester!👌🏽 I got treated to an amazing birthday meal at The Allotment in Cathedral Gardens and honestly, it was incredible 🙌🏻 The space is beautiful, the vibe is chill, and the food? 10/10. Attended the ginstronomy night and I am so impressed. It was a four course meal with gin pairing, the theme was Japanese inspired food which was paired with kokoro gin and liqueurs. Our first dish was Tempura tofu in miso broth with soda noodles, edamame and sesame. This was so delicious, very rich and silky texture of the broth and amazing umami and spicy flavour. This came paired with a cherry blossom gin liqueur with pomegranate. 2nd course was charred tuna tataki with pickled asparagus and enoki mushroom. Another amazing dish full of flavour, the tuna was delicate and omg the mushrooms were heavenly! Paired with a refreshing tall cocktail made with blueberry and lemongrass liqueur. Our 3rd dish was Teriyaki lamb cutlets with aubergine and miso paste and crispy noodles. There was so much lamb here and it was blushed to perfection, tender and succelent. This dish arrived with a gin and tonic using the kokoro gin, a very citrus drink. Finally I was wowed again by the dessert. A matcha pannacotta with yuzu and a sesame macadamia. The pannacotta was perfect and so silky and amazing with the macadamia

It was quite cheap but the quality of the rib-eye cut was unfortunately not great and it had nerves and all tough fibres that made it hard to eat. Maybe I'd need to try a fillet next time, I don't know. What was also suspicious was getting a rib-eye steak already sliced rather than whole. Maybe that should have warned me to its quality beforehand or maybe it did and I tried it anyway as I'd be paying for it... The mash was like a bucket load with a sprinkling of cheese on top. Not great tasting at all. The 3 stars is because it's a nice-ish ambience and the male waiter was good and tried to advise as best as he could. The 2 female waitresses were completely unengaging and dare I say bordering or showing a hint of unfriendliness.

Savoury food was amazing but service overall and desert was an embarrassment. It took over 2.5 hrs in totally to have 3 courses, one of which we sent back as it was not edible. How can I chef not see desert casing was burnt or even check....very poor standards. Waitress seemed annoyed but thier mistake but clearly felt it was our fault, or made us feel like that. We ended up with no deserts and had to fight to have both taken off as the original offer was to replace one. The replacement should have been given and knocked off the bill but this seemed unreasonable to them. 2 other tables complained and Waitress also couldn't handle this, had a tantrum and demanded someone else speak to them. Rather than just give small amount of money off the bill for poor service and food they argued with one table trying to prove points which they were wrong on. " you didn't order until 7.30" again embarrassing as the truth was "you didn't acknowledge we were here and take our order for 30 mins". While this unfolder we were completely ignored for 20mins waiting to pay. This place is classic case of good food but you'd never come back or recommend because the staff and service are very...

Decor is charming ,love the horticulture theme but the food is hype!! Smaller than Tapas portions, but not spanish orientated by which i mean a gravy and yorkshire pudding dish (over baked) whitebait ,but the coating was flour and not a light batter (badly mixed) chicken "wings" were small "thighs" and spicy potato wedges were like Asda's worst , other portions were also dry,- fish etc, and we were not brought our order of flat breads so all our hummus and dips were to be eaten by fork? gave up asking for the breads so had the dips(tapas) removed from the bill , great range of Gins , beer was limited but one gets the distinct impression that if you are charmed by the fairy lights and ye olde monochrome photos and mini buckets used to serve the "miniscule" overpriced portions then the food will be forgiven. This place is for "been there " or "Hipsters" crowd certainly not those who appreciate a real quality Gastro bar .Sadly it's as pretentious as the whole of the NQ is becoming. Tip : Decor and polite staff do not make a restaurant ditch the grub stick to the Drinks menu. You can claim a cocktail bar but...
