Great food and good atmosphere. I found out about the canteen from my sister and neighbour when I was looking for a venue for my event. They offer the space for free as long as you bought food from them, which are very reasonably priced. I went with my sisters to try out the food before the venue and the portion sizes were quite good, enough for us to share around. We ordered the Thalis which allowed us to try a bit of each. Our favourites were the karahi (both lamb and chicken) as well as the butter chicken. All the curries are medium in terms of spice level which is nice because it isn't overly spicy but still has a nice kick to it. My nieces enjoyed the butter naan which were very big. All the food is made fresh and is very clean in comparison to other places however, still affordable and easy on the wallet.
I recently had my event in the basement which is quite decent in terms of space. It could accommodate 15 people nicely with enough room to eat, walk about and do activities. It was a ladies only event so we had asked if we could cover up the entryway between the space and the stairs a bit so that customers going down to use the toilet would not really see us. The canteen was nice enough to install a curtain to offer us the privacy. We had ordered curries for the event and had requested for each type to be served in one large dish which the canteen accommodated. It was easy to communicate with the staff and they were very friendly and listened to our requests. They also offered wonderful chai that wasn't too sweet and nicely spiced. I tried their mango lassi and mocktails which were also wonderful options.
Overall, a wonderful experience. I would recommend going as a customer to try out the food or even looking to hire out a venue. I know our group would love to book out the space and...
Read moreHad a wonderful meal here with friends on a Friday night, the food was excellent and staff were lovely. My only criticism would be to suggest that you don't sit near the door on a cold night as it does not shut unless pushed and people leave it open all the time.
The canteen menu was wonderful and and there is always something wonderful about having a three and rice in a slightly new format. I started with two wonderful slightly spicy samosas, and also had one of their shami kebab both of which were good, for me the vegetable somosas were stand out especially with the yoghurt and salad. For my 'main' I had the wonderful Karahi Lamb, Chicken Tika Masala and Chickpea Dhal, I added a roti which was also good. The lamb was standout for me, it tasted like it had been cooked long and slow and had a lovely gentle warming joyfulness which I would never be able to achieve if I tried to make it at home.
I also felt the whole meal was incredibly good value, this was only their 12th night open and I suspect this will become a Chorlton favourite, I suspect it will become harder to get a table in the future, there is not a lot of seating but they also do a take away apparently.
I would say that the menu is 50/50 meat and vegetarian. And I would happily bring all my friends vegetarian...
Read moreSo glad I noticed this restaurant when driving past a few weeks ago. Me and my husband decided to visit the same week and were very impressed by the food, the hospitality and the value. I’m vegetarian and there were a variety of options for me, the chana daal was the best daal ive eaten. Garlic naan alongside was perfect 🙌 . Both of us really enjoyed every aspect of our meal.
Great job serving zanti drinks (local Manchester brand with good ethics) and remaining fully halal with no alcohol served! Would love to see poppadoms and fries added to the menu, used to love these from Spices.😁
We knew from looking at reviews that the owners are the previous owners of spices of Kashmir in Old Trafford. Their new venture ‘Kaana’ stays true to authentic kashmiri cooking and fits so well into the area. We will most definitely return and look forward to bringing...
