Surprise 50th meal for my sister. 24 of us from age 7 to 78! Pub was exceptionally busy because of football but the atmosphere was brilliant. Very friendly place. Very quick service to say how busy it was and I was impressed that all 24 of us managed to get what we wanted to eat as we hadn't pre ordered. We were sat at the top end so away from non diners. Whilst we were not all sat on the same table, we were all in the same area, very close together. Impossible to seat us all on one table because it would block fire exits. Food arrived quickly and piping hot. I had the Full Monty mixed grill which consisted of 2 chicken breast, steak, sausage, gammon, tomato, egg, chips, peas and onion rings for £7!!!! How can anyone complain at these prices? I couldn't make it myself for that price! Our young waitress Beth was rushed off her feet bowing down to our every need with a smile. Bless her. Beth. You deserve a medal. So. Honestly. No. It isn't The Ritz! It's a brilliant pub grub, family pub with kind, hard working staff and you definitely get your money's worth. I was a little concerned after reading some reviews, but we landed lucky last night and we all enjoyed every minute. Thank you to all, especially Beth. Would we return? A...
Read moreWe have frequented the Bold Forester on numerous occasions, and each time, the meals have been fantastic. The wait has been more than reasonable, and the food has been to a high standard. The portion sizes are also ample.
My only tiny criticism and this is only a personal one... the is NEVER anywhere near enough gravy on the Sunday Roasts. To the point I have even considered bringing my own gravy.
I myself and my mother frequently have mixed grills, and the steak is always cooked to our liking. My husband tends to have the starter sharing platter as his main so he can just pick and nibble at the wide variety there is on offer, which he loves as he tends to get bored with a meal of the same thing.
The cocktails are amazing, and there are a wide variety of wines, draft and bottled beer, lager, and ciders as well as non alcohol beers/lagers and soft drinks.
The pub itself is quaint and cosy with a family atmosphere, and the staff are warm, friendly, and welcoming.
A great pub for an everyday meal out, Sunday lunch or for a special occasion such as a birthday.

Read morelady behind bar was lovely, can’t say the same about the rest of the experience, food was horrendous. Ordered the cheesy sharer and the Camembert came out like water & with zero presentation skills , it tasted like perfume or cleaning products , and when we told a member of staff she told us that’s how it should taste with a bad attitude, as someone who is very keen on Camembert and has it regular , I know it should not taste like perming solution , was supposed to come with chutney and didn’t so when we asked about it we were told it was in the delivery and that meant we couldn’t have it. A lady offered us a refund for the cheesy sharer and then went missing and never came back to us which resulted in us not getting a refund as she never returned, as we were having a starter we only ordered a light meal and the salad we ordered had 4 tiny pieces of steak on it and the rest was a bowl of lettuce. We are really not happy with this experience and for this reason we will most definitely never be returning here and I wouldn’t advise anyone...
