When in Melton, we always call in for pork pies, but what a disappointment they were this time (24/09/25), we bought three of the chunky cut meat with extra spice pies (£6.95 each) and found them to be very dry, nowhere near as tasty as they usually are and with very little jelly in them. We gave two pies away to family members without telling them our views and they both asked where we'd bought them from as they are just not the same, our daughter threw hers away and our son fed the meat to his cats! The shop has lost all of its charm, its called ye olde pork pie shoppe, but there's nothing olde about it now at all. Obviously the shop has recently undergone a severe renovation thus ripping its soul out, but who's idea was it to incorporate stone steps for people to have to negotiate? In this day and age of being inclusive, some bright spark has decided anyone in a wheelchair or parents with children in buggies aren't welcome. Unfortunately we won't be back, we can buy pork pies from any sterile soulless shop local to us that will certainly be tastier than the ones we had this time, it's such a shame! **After leaving this review I was asked to contact the company, which I did. After providing proof of purchase, replacement pies were sent to us, these pies far exceeded the ones we had originally purchased, they tasted fresh, the pastry wasn't dry and they contained jelly. It was explained to me that the jelly in the pies is sometimes absorbed into the pastry, as the pie nears the end of it's shelf life, maybe a shorter shelf life is needed to be considered to maintain a quality product? I appreciate the company's friendly, proffessional rapid response to our...

My home town, but moved away in 1988 love this shop and have done for all my life. When I visit I stock up on Hot Gooseberry Chutney to go with the large pork pie. And at the end of the day, there is only one pork pie, and that's the Melton Mowbray pork pie. Lots to choose from and the sausage shop next door has a wonderful selection of different flavours that I can highly recommend. So next time you're passing by Melton stop and get a famous Pork pie.

My father would stock up on pork pies and Stilton cheese each Christmas he would bring them up as presents and he would buy a whole cheese yes that's the whole thing, and my friends in North Yorkshire loved it. Unfortunately, my father passed away 3yrs ago, but I was in Melton in Jan love what you have done with the shop very smart and looks spotless and picked up two hand-raised pork pies and some of my favourite hot gooseberry chutney just love that stuff. There is only one pork pie in my eye and that's a Melton Mowbray Pork pie you can't beat them living in North Yorkshire I will not touch their pork pies the meat is so pink, nope not me and they also heat these, yuk can't think of anything so bad you don't heat pork pies. I have been eating these Melton...

This is a review of the Tasting Room within this shop. As a regular visitor to Melton Mowbray we often pop in and buy the delicious pies. On this last visit, we were hungry and decided to go into the Tasting Room first. It was carefully explained that a meal is eaten in the back of the shop, more set up for meals, but snacks in the front, on fairly standard tables and chairs. fair enough. We were going to have a coffee and pie, but before I could enjoy this, sitting in your premises, I asked to use the bathroom. Imagine my shock to be told, only if we had a meal! Seriously, are you real!?? Yes, deadly serious, so serious the 2 ladies behind the counter seemed to enjoy telling us this fact. Needless to say, we walked out in disgust no coffee no pie, no shopping for pies after.

I'm still reeling and angry from this, I can understand no bathroom facilities for non paying customers, but we were going to spend money in both areas. Also I do believe, that if premises offer seated indoor eating, they have to provide toilet facilities. I think you need to revise your policy on this and consider training staff in...

Found myself in Melton Mowbray and came upon Ye Olde Pie Shoppe. What a jewel tucked in the centre of the town. Not only were the pies well presented, the building has been sensitively converted to respect its heritage yet embraced the needs of the 21st century. Subtle plaques tell the story of the building and the provenance of the pork pie. What I didn’t expect was the level of service of its staff when I found I could eat in and try a taster board menu. Brilliant concept and very European ! Karen and Kirsty were obviously very well trained and knowledgeable about the menu and could advise me on what I may like. I went for the sharing platter…wow! A feast and reasonably priced too…( I’ll let you decide which of the 8 different pork pies you’d prefer to enjoy). The shop also sells pickles and craft beer…”Paint the town red” beer is a must and a little history lesson to boot. The experience was akin to a top end restaurant. I would recommend this venue for parties and business lunches.

I recently visited the iconic pork pie shop in Melton Mowbray, the birthplace of the famous Melton Mowbray Pork Pie, and I was not disappointed! The pies are absolutely delicious—perfectly balanced in flavor with a golden, flaky crust and savory filling. The shop itself is a great place to experience a piece of culinary history, and I was thrilled to learn they’re now offering a tasting room. You can enjoy a shared platter and sample 8 different pork pies, which is a fantastic way to try various flavors and find your favorite! The staff were friendly, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. Whether you’re a pork pie enthusiast or just visiting Melton Mowbray, this place is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

On our way to Sherwood Pines Campsite, we spotted a road sign for Melton Mowbray and immediately joked that we had to stop for a proper pork pie. It felt like a must-do detour, so we did—and we’re so glad we did! The pie was incredible - perfectly seasoned pork wrapped in delicious, crisp pastry. It was so good that we couldn’t resist stopping again on our return journey five days later. This time, we stocked up and bought pies for the whole family. Safe to say, they have been a hit with everyone! Ye Olde Pork Pie Shoppe absolutely lives up to its reputation. If you’re anywhere near Melton Mowbray, do yourself a favour and stop by. You won’t regret it!
