When in Melton, we always call in for pork pies, but what a disappointment they were this time (24/09/25), we bought three of the chunky cut meat with extra spice pies (ÂŁ6.95 each) and found them to be very dry, nowhere near as tasty as they usually are and with very little jelly in them. We gave two pies away to family members without telling them our views and they both asked where we'd bought them from as they are just not the same, our daughter threw hers away and our son fed the meat to his cats! The shop has lost all of its charm, its called ye olde pork pie shoppe, but there's nothing olde about it now at all. Obviously the shop has recently undergone a severe renovation thus ripping its soul out, but who's idea was it to incorporate stone steps for people to have to negotiate? In this day and age of being inclusive, some bright spark has decided anyone in a wheelchair or parents with children in buggies aren't welcome. Unfortunately we won't be back, we can buy pork pies from any sterile soulless shop local to us that will certainly be tastier than the ones we had this time, it's such a shame! **After leaving this review I was asked to contact the company, which I did. After providing proof of purchase, replacement pies were sent to us, these pies far exceeded the ones we had originally purchased, they tasted fresh, the pastry wasn't dry and they contained jelly. It was explained to me that the jelly in the pies is sometimes absorbed into the pastry, as the pie nears the end of it's shelf life, maybe a shorter shelf life is needed to be considered to maintain a quality product? I appreciate the company's friendly, proffessional rapid response to our...
Read moreMy home town, but moved away in 1988 love this shop and have done for all my life. When I visit I stock up on Hot Gooseberry Chutney to go with the large pork pie. And at the end of the day, there is only one pork pie, and that's the Melton Mowbray pork pie. Lots to choose from and the sausage shop next door has a wonderful selection of different flavours that I can highly recommend. So next time you're passing by Melton stop and get a famous Pork pie.
My father would stock up on pork pies and Stilton cheese each Christmas he would bring them up as presents and he would buy a whole cheese yes that's the whole thing, and my friends in North Yorkshire loved it. Unfortunately, my father passed away 3yrs ago, but I was in Melton in Jan love what you have done with the shop very smart and looks spotless and picked up two hand-raised pork pies and some of my favourite hot gooseberry chutney just love that stuff. There is only one pork pie in my eye and that's a Melton Mowbray Pork pie you can't beat them living in North Yorkshire I will not touch their pork pies the meat is so pink, nope not me and they also heat these, yuk can't think of anything so bad you don't heat pork pies. I have been eating these Melton...
Read moreThis is a review of the Tasting Room within this shop. As a regular visitor to Melton Mowbray we often pop in and buy the delicious pies. On this last visit, we were hungry and decided to go into the Tasting Room first. It was carefully explained that a meal is eaten in the back of the shop, more set up for meals, but snacks in the front, on fairly standard tables and chairs. fair enough. We were going to have a coffee and pie, but before I could enjoy this, sitting in your premises, I asked to use the bathroom. Imagine my shock to be told, only if we had a meal! Seriously, are you real!?? Yes, deadly serious, so serious the 2 ladies behind the counter seemed to enjoy telling us this fact. Needless to say, we walked out in disgust no coffee no pie, no shopping for pies after.
I'm still reeling and angry from this, I can understand no bathroom facilities for non paying customers, but we were going to spend money in both areas. Also I do believe, that if premises offer seated indoor eating, they have to provide toilet facilities. I think you need to revise your policy on this and consider training staff in...
