I visited recently and was sad to note that since I lived in the area and was regular visitor 10 years ago or so it's now a bit of dump with a broken down kids train, a dilapidated mini golf course and pigeon shit everywhere to name a few of its sundry attractions. To add insult to injury the town trust who own the park have outsourced the car parking to an organisation called Premier Park. Having paid the correct amount (£1) parked within the lines and having returned and left within the allotted time I still received a penalty notice for £100 for failing to 'pay'. I had a ticket and had entered my registration into their machine but it didn't record it correctly, so it didn't match the ANPR all of which came to light when I appealed to them....inspite of acknowledging that I had obviously paid all they did was reduce the fine to £20 which elected to pay to put an end to it. When I paid the fine the notice said it was for non-payment which they know to be a lie. This 'company' clearly makes its money off penalty fines alone, has faulty machines and uses the law to, in essence, extort money from anyone who parks in their car parks. I won't be returning to Wilton Park or Melton Mowbray...
Read moreA classic town park, with well-kept grassed areas and well maintained, pretty shrubs. A lovely outdoor cafe is here and wooden seats, ie benches with tables, serving a good variety of food and drinks - a lovely selection of cakes, scones and biscuits and sandwiches of all sorts, chips and crisps and salad. A bouncy castle for the kids too, weather and wind permitting... Maybe even the small steam train is running across the way for all the family to ride on - great fun. Try and find the outdoor gym nearby. A modernised play area for the kids nearby too - over the little bridge - which they will just love! Ideal... See the ducks swimming in the river and canal alongside and even swans and mallards... In another park area nearby, see the little pond area with little benches to sit and watch thr ducks and bbirds. Some pay parking is available here and toilets too. Tennis courts. Close to Waterfield Leisure with the swimming pool and gym and spa/sauna/wet room. Not far from the town centre - so handy too! A brass band often plays in thr area over the bridge alternate Sundays during the summer - so quaint and so...
Read moreA beautiful park however be careful with the parking. We visited with elderly parents for a cuppa after the markets ( the cafe was closed luckily we had a thermos in the car ) and ended up with a £60 parking fine, we didn't realise parking had expired 15 mins earlier. As beautiful as UK is everywhere we went had different parking machines with different fees and instructions some.needed apps downloaded some used pay n display some recorded with cameras entry and exit. It made our month visit exhausting and expensive. I wonder how many elderly stay home to avoid the cost...
