Birthday treat for hubby and sister we were a group of 11, 4 clearly past 40 and the remainder aged between 19 & 23,our kids and their partners all. Coming for a game of darts at Arrowsmiths.
They lady at the desk singled out a 21 year old in the group and requested Id. Apparently it's challange 18 for darts, she wasn't drinking. She didn't have it with her, she did however have her uni pass and someone who worked there knew her from uni. I questioned why she would just ask one member of the group when it was clear three others were yonger. We were told It's because she is small (rude) & looks it. I asked if it would be better to ask the whole group rather than single one person out. She replied, 'but they look old enough' , obviously the girl. Involved felt awful, it was my sons girlfriend, I requested a video call to her parents to show passport and driving licence as she lives half an hour away, we were told no, you can play later and wait whilst she gets it, I have to see it in person. Common sense was not applied at any point, she then vanished, we managed to get a family member to bring the ID. The chap who served us after was apologetic and almost embarrassed by the fact we were left waiting for 45 minutes in the foyer. I understand policy, and also that she should have had her ID, what I was bothered by was the rudeness, the apparent singling out of one group member and then the way she was pointed at whilst 6 others, non of who look any older than the other were ignored and not questioned . Once we got to our darts session the staff were great, explained well and were attentive. However £17 for the big match snack plate was massively over priced for what was there.
All in all after a dodgy start a great family...
Read more30 July 2021! We called the venue if they are still on track with the live music program by the Jazz Festival. They said no they are not aware of it! Anyway we risked it and went assuming the person on the phone is not fully aware of the festival. Traveled 30min to get to Solihull and were there at 8:20pm and saw the live music has already started despite the program said it starts at 9pm! Was sorry to miss the start… On the entrance before we spotted the live music, we thought is it really the right venue for jazz given the customer profile is not kind of jazz audience but rather club music audience. We were glad to see Chickenbone John performing live music. All was great! Until the interval when the singer was told not to continue! Shocked! Not 9pm yet and singer asked to stop! Then why did I travel 30min all the way to solihull on Friday night! We spoke to the pub personnel who had to ask the singer to stop performing. He was very kind to explain the situation which we fully appreciate. But the issue is the planning and agreeing with the jazz festival team to be part of this festival. Surely the venue is not at all appropriate for jazz at Friday night given the audience is there for clubbing and DJ music but not jazz or any sort of similar music. Will communicate this to the festival team but was disappointing...
Read moreWhere's all these great beers that are mentioned on the review. Several months ago this pub always had at least 2 ales on all the time and a guest ale. Since then on many visits, no guest ale and of the 2 regular ales Doom Bar and IPA, one of them is not available, and today the only one available IPA is bad. What had happened to this pub??
UPDATE 20 Feb 2019 Been in today and again no Craft beer available. Was told by staff that O'Neils Solihull will be removing all craft beer from the pumps permanently. Why?
It's a good venue to watch Rugby and is well attended by lovers of Real/Craft ale. Why oh why would you remove the ability to have a choice. I'm now in Wetherspoons Solihull at 5.30pm and there must be over a hundred customers. I counted 5 in O'Neils.
Bad business decision, won't be attending O'Neils anymore will be arranging another venue to watch the remaining 6 Nations games with my six ale...
