Extremely disappointing...booked a table last minute over the phone, arrived at restaurant to find a table had been plonked in a walkway. Shown to table, must of looked a little disappointed as was asked if this table was OK but before I could reply was promptly told "well its the only one anyway" even though there were plenty of empty tables about. Looked at the very limited menu and two of the four of us chose cod....sorry, no cod, only one "small portion" OK one of the party had that the other three opted for roasts.. there was an option for "smaller portion" Food was served almost instantaneously...obviously not freshly cooked. The roasts consisted of two very thin pieces of meat, two extremely small re heated "roast potatoes" a small piece of broccoli, carrot, slither of parsnip, yorkshire pudding, and gravy... (plenty of gravy) looked awful and dried up. Not really sure how you could of dished up a smaller portion!!! I admit we booked last minute but if you couldn't accommodate our party you should not of accepted the booking... One of our party (who really wanted the cod!)did ask for extra meat and was told it would cost extra, that was OK but didn't get any extra... not asked of everything was OK until after we had paid the bill... I have just noticed, I left a 5 star review previously certainly gone down hill massively...sorry we won't be returning ...VERY POOR VALUE...
Read moreRatings purely on the following... So if you wish to laugh and have fun don't come here. Unbelievable that one table of five grown up, professional, courteous people cannot chat and reminiss, without being asked to keep it down as we were disturbing an empty (possibly three other customers), pub. Sometimes people shouldn't be so quick to tell customers to be quite when they are out. Three at this table, myself included were reminiscing about my grandparents with a friend and her partner. The three of us that were there, tragically lost a son/brother last year and we don't all live in the same place. Sitting down with friends, relaxing and chatting was brought to a very abrupt and rude end, when we were asked to be quiet. Weirdly enough we were just finishing our drinks and we're leaving the pub, approx 5 minutes later. The landlord was exceptionally rude and since, I've spoken about this to friends, I've been advised he has done this before. Well I won't be going back, the money I spent I'd rather give to another establishment than to this rude, unfriendly man. Very disappointed is an understatement, what was a lovely eve turned into something quite different thanks...
Read moreWe had a fabulous meal at the Woolpack Good Friday afternoon. Thr pub was busy as there was a jazz lunch event taking place and it was lovely to see it so packed. The music was great and at a great sound level so you could still hold a conversation and enjoy the meal. Our waitress was extremely friendly. The starters we chose were delicious the chicken strips, halloumi sticks and calamari had the most amazing batter, so light and delicious. My step daughter had the chicken burger and said it was amazing. My husband and I had the rodeo burger - delicious! All home made and fresh. There was a little wait after our mains for our plates to be cleared and for our starters, however we don't like to be rushed so we weren't fussed, plus as said above the pub was very busy. My step daughter had the lemon drizzle cake for dessert, which was huge. I had the sticky toffee pudding, which was OK, nice and sweet and light. We had a really lovely lunch, absolutely quality food, friendly service and a proper pub. Looking forward to...
