Visiting a friend who is local and after lunch at hers she suggested tea and cake here before a short walk and my return home. 3.30pm so given a good welcome but advised it closes promptly at 4pm on a Saturday. Led to a rear room which doesn't have quite the ambiance and atmosphere of the first and did get very noisy when the next table was assailed by people they knew and the volume went up considerably. However staff were well presented, efficient and very friendly. We did not have to wait long for mocha coffees and our selected cakes. My battenburg was the best I have ever had and a decent portion too. Running at just over £8 per person for coffee and cake is a tad on the dear side but it is a pleasant treat. Coffee comes in large cups rather than mugs, so they are not large. We were done by the 4pm deadline but plenty of diners were still going strong so the threat of eviction was over-stated and we could have been more leisurely! I would return. I do think the vegan cup cake is rather wee for the money compared with my delicious cake. I would call again and offer up these small observations just to be complete...
Read moreWe sat outside as tiny inside was overcrowded. It took 10mins to recieve menues. I had to get up to place my order after waiting 20mins. The tables cloth was continuously flapping around and nobody assisted in strapping it to the table. The masala chai tea was just a tea bag in a small pot and not a fresh blend (at the high cost of £3). The scone was cheaply processed, probable from a tesco value pack of 10, (at the high cost of £2.95), and the carrot cake was also store bought and tasted overly sweet. Then wasps appeared in their drones, which, of course, I won't blame the staff for the wasps, but they were spraying insect repellent at the next table while we were eating our store bought cakes and the wind was heading in our direction. Also, after waiting 20mins for the bill I had to get up, again, walk inside where 4 staff members were joking around and stuffing their faces with sandwiches and crisps. We won't be returning back and I suggest others follow suit. It was a terrible experience full of artificial mass produce cakes with over priced tea and...
Read moreWent for a lovely Afternoon Tea at this very quaint Tea Room. The sandwiches, scones and sweet treats are all freshly made and beautifully presented on fine bone China crockery, and the ambience and service were exceptional! The ladies really made our afternoon feel special even though they were very busy with locals coming in for lunch/brunch or Tea and Coffee and Cake - always a good sign! A couple of tips - you do need to order your Afternoon Tea at least 24 hours in advance, there are stairs up to the tearoom, and it was a shame we didn't know we could have prosecco until we were leaving - still, next time! UPDATE - went for Birthday afternoon tea with hubby now that moved to premises on high street - food and service excellent as before (and lovely that there is a savory version of afternoon tea) but new premises are amazing, so much more space and beautiful decor - very busy (best to book) and I can see why! Amazing, unique place! See you in September with my...
