Gorgeous Pub, situated in a beautiful setting along the lock but when we walked in .............. It felt like all 4 pairs of eyes was on us. Smiling I think is a no,no. We ordered our drinks and thanked the landlord, we sat outside and met a friendly couple and their dog. My daughter sat with their dog and then walked the lock watching the fish, we finished our drinks and used the toilet before walking along the lock. My daughter and myself went into the toilet first after putting our empty glasses on the bar, the woman behind the bar gave us a very distasteful glance, then my mother went to come into the toilet when the woman behind the bar said loudly " are you just walking through here to use my toilet" said in a very aggressive voice . My mother replied , no I have just finished my drink, the woman did not apologise just said " Oh because that's what usually happens" then turned her back. What a shame, such...
Read moreI visited the red lion yesterday for Sunday lunch and to meet with friends we had a lovely day .it's was very clean even in the toilets and they let us rearrange the furniture to accommodate our large group In the end only 3 of us ate as most only wanted a burger but they only do Roast on a sunday I had the roast chicken which was cooked perfectly the roast potatoes were deliciously fluffy inside and crispy on the outside , downside my dad and husband both had the gammon which was cut in 2 wafer thin slices and instead of a gravy jug the gravy had been pre poured onto the meals ( not everyone wants gravy !) We never got asked once if everything was ok and I don't think I saw the barman smile once and although I had booked a table we were not given menus or even any information about what was available still don't know if they do any puddings we had to repeatedly ask questions to find out exactly what...
Read more100% improvement since re-opening. I visited last night and was delighted with how the place now looks and the great atmosphere. The new landlady, Karen, is very warm and friendly and really makes you feel welcome. For anyone who visited previously and had an unfriendly welcome from the former landlord you certainly won't get that now! They also take cards now. Unbelievable that they didn't before. They also now do food and what I saw looked good. I am looking forward to visiting more and cant wait for the summer. The outside is also much nicer and it will be great to sit outside watching the World go by on the canal. It was a mess before with a tatty outside tent and disgusting outdoor 'furniture'. I actually think the previous landlord did his best to put people off (apart from a chosen few that is). I wish Karen and her team all...
