Really quite irritating to be writing this but I’m sure it will be ignored given the size of the business. I shop here regularly and have done for the past couple years with no issues.
HOWEVER, I bought a carton of 12 eggs and as usual I always check them to ensure they’re not cracked. Annoyingly, there was one egg that was but I didn’t realise until leaving the store. Upon realising, I immediately walked back in and politely spoke to one of the members of staff and asked if I could please exchange the carton for one with all of its eggs intact.
In response to this, the service assistant replied saying “well as you’ve taken this out of the store we can’t guarantee that you’ve not dropped this and brought it back”
Excuse me?
I’ve dropped a carton of 12 eggs and only one is broken? How does that make sense?
Eventually, a higher member of staff came to give her two cents and inspected the carton I pointed out the damaged egg and she said “yes well it has been hit” to which I responded, “not by me”
She then said “next time you should check your eggs” I said I did, annoyingly
Reluctantly she gave the green light.
I walked off completely shocked I’ve just had this conversation with two people who were raising their eyebrows at the idea of broken eggs and doubting if I had broken this myself.
Yes. This was my evil master plan to go to Aldi at the end of a long week of graft and buy eggs, break one and take it back for an exchange. Oh the horror!
Admittedly I did say something under my breath as I walked away but it was not antagonistic, merely an expression of confusion to myself. As I’m walking away the senior member of staff says “excuse me?” “I don’t have to be nice to you!” What on earth? I just became more confused.
All this faff over £2.85 worth of eggs.
I think what annoys me is that I shop here regularly. The first woman I spoke to sees me there on a regular basis with my wife and I even said this to her.
Businesses are judged not on when things go well or smoothly because let’s face it, to be in business this is a must. HOWEVER, businesses are judged on when things go wrong. At times, things do go wrong but it’s about how you handle it. This is something so small but it is principle.
Just some feedback for your...
Read moreThis is an ok supermarket for one or two items. I was relieved to see self serve tills installed as some male staff would throw the items through the scanner at the checkout as though a need to get home quick, and items with a 30 o/o discount label not processed due to their lack of care scanning items too fast, but i found that staff were standing at the self serve tills asking if paying with cash or card, then short while later a member of staff decided to interfere and scan my items without asking me while i was scanning them myself which i did not require. This happened in the last hour of closing. A couple of weeks later i encountered a member of staff standing near the s.s. tills and when i asked if i can use a one, his response was incompehendable as he was mumbling, and he pointed to a till, then a second male appeared and they both stood behind me while i scanned my items, facing me and talking, then suddenly the second male leant over to me and asked me if i need any help.......I said No thank you, and i heard a uhh.. As i was coming to the end, the same man pounced on an item still in my trolley telling me i had forgotten it, before i had chance to check for myself.
After i had paid, i went to turn away with my trolley and the same man was so close that he was almost inside it, and he said Have a nice evening ok?... around 9.30 -45pm i was asked to have a nice evening and with a raised pitch upon the word ok, as though i was being asked a question. Self serve is exactly that, yet i was asked if need help when i clearly did not require any. Staff need some training and to leave customers alone. If someone requires help, they'll ask for it and staff should not be standing behind customers having conversations with each other. In the last hour of closing staff seem to be trying to move customers on and get them out...
Read moreI really enjoy shopping at alfi, and it has become one of my favorite supermarkets. The first thing I notice every time I go in is how affordable everything is without sacrificing quality. Their fruit and vegetables are always fresh, and the prices are much better compared to other stores. I also love the bakery section—there’s nothing better than walking in and smelling the fresh bread and pastries. The croissants and rolls are my go-to, and they taste just as good as something from a local bakery. One of the best things about aldi is the weekly specials. I never know what I’ll find, and it makes shopping a bit more fun. I’ve picked up great deals on snacks, seasonal treats, and even non-food items like kitchen gadgets and home essentials. It feels like there’s always something new to try. The store itself is easy to navigate, which makes shopping quick and stress-free. The staff are always polite and helpful, and the checkout is usually fast, which is a big plus. Overall, Lidl is a place where I know I’ll get good value for my money, and I actually look forward to going...
