Got a card from our server Salicia (or similar, handwriting not the best) asking for feedback on our Sunday Lunch. Well it was disappointing. We just got comfortable but were then moved to an adjacent table as apparently the table we were sitting at was "booked". No reservation sign on it when we were seated there by another server initially. So we sat at a tiny table in the window which was hot & uncomfortable. The roast beef Sunday lunch wasn't good: dry overcooked Yorkshire Pudding; dry overcooked roast potatoes; limp overcooked veg. For the price it was expensive and not very good value for money. We've had far better Sunday roasts in the pub at half the price. As we were finishing we were surprised when our server walked past and put the bill on our table before walking off. I guess she didn't want us to have pudding then. The table we were bumped from remained empty for the duration of our meal: when I pointed this out to our server at the end she just laughed. I said we weren't happy but she said the customers who were going to sit at the table decided to sit outside, which is why it remained unused. Really bad decision making on her part as they weren't very busy and had numerous other tables free: far better to leave us undisturbed and seat the other customers (if they came) at another table. Not sure what she was thinking. We paid the bill (minus the service charge) and left. We were staying at the hotel for six nights: on the first night we had a lovely meal with good service so not sure why this experience was so poor. Anyway, it put us off so we ate out for the rest of our stay. The hotel itself is a lovely hotel in a great location and apart from our extremely hot room (and bad Sunday lunch experience) we enjoyed...

Read moreThe only good thing about this hotel is the location. As I went to check in, the front desk gentleman was checking in 2 other people, I waited. He took them upstairs to their room, returned and carried on working something on the laptop, did not acknowledge me at all. He took some time before he said anything. He checked me in and upgraded me, which was appreciated, and I went to my room.
The room was not very clean. There was an absolutely filthy glass in the room, with what looked like child fingers all over it and inside it.
In the evening I went for a drink at the bar, the same check-in gentleman was a barman now. As I was still deciding I let a couple of people go ahead of me. I asked for the wine list, he said ok, but then left to get some more alcohol bottles. Had a quick look and all the glasses seemed to be dirty. I left and went in the village and had a drink and something to eat there.
In the morning I had a full English, except for the scrambled eggs and sausage, the rest was inedible. The bacon looked as if was cooked 5 days ago and was reheated, the hash brown was smelling of old oil, the mushroom was barely cooked... The glasses on the table were dirty.
When checking out, waited for someone by the desk. A lady came in saying that someone will be with us in a min. Someone came and attempted to talk to her as she was walking away, she proceeded to shout at him and be quite irritated that he asked her something.
It is a shame as this hotel has a lot of potential. It is in a perfect location, is a beautiful building, however, it seems to be in the wrong hands, with overworked staff and snappy managers.
I will...
