Quinns Bar — Restaurant in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council

Lovely bar, nice staff , decent food. Visited here as a party of 4 on the 14th August 2025 for lunch. Went in and was seated very quickly by a lovely member of staff. Drinks order taken and not long after that food was ordered. 2 Stuffed Steaks, 1 Turkey dinner and 1 Prawn salad. Around 15 to 20 mins later food arrived, decent time for busy lunchtimes. I had the stuffed steak and so did the other half, mine with champ, it was tasty enough, not outstanding but nice enough, I have resorted to the fact that if you want champ make it yourself, then it will be proper champ!. Also when serving steak, even stuffed steaks, supply a steak knife. I had to ask for these. Prawn salad looked massive and plently on it, very nice indeed. Turkey dinner I am told was nice, now the menu stated it came with roast potato and I just checked that on line and it indeed it does state with roast potato, sadly someone overlooked that fact and there was No roast potato, they never said nothing, if it was me eating it I would have. Overall food was nice enough, portions could be a little bigger (except prawn salad, it was massive) considering the prices. Bar is lovely and some good offers on drinks promotions. What a difference from the last time I was here. Me and my wife entered I was given a table. That's as good as it got as the staff member approached thin guy shaved bald head and just sighed as if I can't be bothered here lol. In the dourist of tones "are ya eating or just drinking" both I replied. He came back with the menu left them on the table and said someone will take your order. This young girl came over, looked stoned or badly hungover and took a drink order. Said I'll send someone over for your food order. 15 mins later someone appeared to take food order, salt chilli chicken with chips and a portion of onion rings and pepper sauce. The chicken was uneatable, shergar couldn't have chewed it. The chips were not great either the onion rings and pepper sauce was lovely. I would have no problem returning badly cooked food but the wife just asked me to say nothing but we'll not be back ever. The staff did not make you feel welcome at all. We love Quinn's and regularly head from Belfast to Newcastle just for lunch. Only gave 4 stars for food on this one occasion. My partner and I had the Turkey and Ham with stuffing and roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and veg. No problem with this and we've had it before and we were very happy. This time instead of green veg we were given cauliflower cheese! Not at all what we expected with Turkey & Ham. Doesn't go with gravy or turkey eitger as far as we're concerned! Chef decided otherwise. I don't like gravy and hoped cranberry sauce woukd be served with it as well, but no.......just buckets of gravy! Could I suggest that gravy is served in a little jug then you can decide if you want it and how much please. Otherwise the quality and quantity of food is great plus how its cooked as well.
