Having spent many an evening in the whistledown over the years, this was our first time actually staying there. We availed of a Rorys Travel club stay and dine offer. We dined in the bistro restaurant upstairs and we enjoyed delicious food and top class service from extremely helpful and pleasant staff. We then joined family and friends in the bar for the rest of the evening...... the bar was busy and had a great buzz. |Now the disappointing part. We were woken early the following morning by children screaming and even louder adults shouting and fighting. This was coming from the room directly below us and continued for quite some time. I went down to reception to inform them of the racket. The girl apologised and said she would investigate and update me. We went down for breakfast shortly afterwards and the breakfast was faultless. The noise creator's arrived in en masse just as we were finishing. We returned to our room to get ourselves organised to depart. Our neighbours from the room below returned after their breakfast and the shouting and screaming recommenced. I'm certainly open to correction but it appears to me that the hotel are providing accommodation for international protection recipients which I don't have an issue with. It only becomes an in issue when they show no consideration to paying guest's and from my experience, the hotel didn't do much to address...
Read moreHave spent many an evening in the whistledown socialising over the years. Great location, friendly helpful staff. This was actually our first time staying in the hotel and turned out to be less than I would have expected. We stayed as part of Rorys Travel Club stay and dine offer. We enjoyed lovely food in the bistro restaurant upstairs and the girls serving could not be more helpful. We spent the rest of the evening in the bar with family and friends. Retired for the evening. The Room we stayed in 116 could do with a fresh up.... bed was very comfortable. The bad points...... we were woken early the next morning 6.45am by loud screaming children being shouted at by equally if not louder adults. It was obviously extremely disturbing to be listening to that awful racket at that hour in the morning.... it was coming for the room directly below... I went down to reception to ask them to investigate and spoke with the girl. She was apologetic and said she would look into it and revert to me. Anyway, suffice to say, our stay was spoiled by those other guests staying at the hotel and from what I could ascertain the Hotel did nothing about it. As when we returned to our room after breakfast, the racket continued. I'm open to correction but it appeared that they were international protection recipients but had absolutely no consideration for other...
Read moreI was at the Whistledown this morning for a work out and mindfulness. The hotel is a real credit to business owners Sarah and Colum. The room for the workout and mindfulness was spectacular. It was comfortably large for the big crowd and at the same it was perfect temperature for what was required. The service with the variety drinks was efficient, timely, personable and professional. Sarah is ever present to meet needs even before they are expressed. The Whistledown is more than a hotel. Sarah and Colum also offer their premises to enable community building and networking such as this morning. It is also used as a place of comfort and support for vulnerable people such as The Forget Me Not Cafe (dementia). As we are in New Year 2025, the Whistledown deserves all our support at its various levels. It certainly raises the bar on end to end quality of service. It generates warmth through the friendliness and helpfulness which naturally oozes from all you meet. Sarah and Colum through their teams and their own modelling inspires me as they generously hold a space for events that build community and in turn invites us to collaborate with them in supporting the current needs of the community. Thank you both...
