I would like to say firstly the food is lovely , the ambience is perfect and the staff are great! But unfortunately the manager wasn’t very pleasant at al! I would like to say how disappointed we were with your response to us when we came to speak to you on Friday lunch time to explain that my sister unfortunately threw away 2 £10 gift vouchers we bought for them for Xmas they got thrown away by accident with the wrapping paper. We spoke to the girl that sold me the gift vouchers and she remembers distinctly and she knows we haven’t used them like the manager said we may have! But you will not be kind enough to honour them! My sister and myself both run businesses and we would want to do everything in our power to make our customers happy. We would never speak to our customers the way you spoke to us! We felt you were very rude, you didn’t care that we are regular customers and that we come in every week which you recognise us and the staff recognise us but you are still adamant that you will not honour the gift cards back to us due to an unfortunate accident. We are extremely gutted and upset by your attitude and to feel that you would rather lose our custom than to put this right is just bizarre! You didn’t have any remorse how you spoke to us. Being a manager of a business we thought this was awful behaviour, your reasons we felt were poor and your rudeness and ignorance...
Read moreI haven given them one star not because of the food as the food is the best by far, the one star is because of the disappointing way the manager treated us ofter a 20 pounds gift card that by mistake got thrown away. It was purchased as a Christmas gift from my brother & his wife myself & hubby all go most Fridays weekly for the last two years the lady that served us clearly recalled the purchased of the gift & serves as ever Friday to the point she knows what we want with out asking us. as she only a employer their, she asked as to tell the manager to see if he would Honour it , we explained our predicament, his reaction shocked us not to say the least, he out rightly refused to honour it, he said he small business could not afford to lose 20 pounds , if he did it for us he would have to do it for every one else (iam sure not many people throw theres away by mistake) Instead his small business will be losing round about 160 a month after working out what we spend there each week , real shame as i brought a few people there in the 2 years we have been eating there will miss the food as i said it the best place to eat we travel from Bedfordshire to eat their!, But it's the principle we were very shocked by...
Read moreSince the last time I visited Hitchin for food, the landscape of eateries has changed considerably. And on Wednesdays, lots of cafés and restaurants are closed so options are limited. We asked someone who worked locally where they would recommend. "Chilli B's!" they said and we decided to try it.
What a fab little café and takeaway! They basically create a series of awesome "fillings" that you can have in different breads, on a baked potato, or in a salad. They all have funky film-based names, like "Texas Chainsaw Moussaka", "Lord of the Bling" and "Ben Herd", and if you want to create your own fillings, ask for "The Man with No Name." Love it!
Food was great, service fantastic (a big shout out to Abby and Giovanni for taking such great care of us), and prices definitely reasonable.
Post-visit care from the owners was also exceptional, sorting out a minor issue with an error on the bill.
Two things worth mentioning:
Don't get confused by the café's name. The café is named after the owners' son who got the nickname Chilli Banana on a family holiday. It's not a Mexican.
From c.o.b. on Saturday 15 March, they are closed for 3 weeks for refurbishment hopefully reopening w/c 7th April.
But definitely...
