Myself and a friend tried Esquires for lunch. The choice of ciabbatas etc is good with a range of teas and coffees. The decor is nice but left behind by the previous business that occupied the premises. The staff member behind the counter double checked our order but didn't appear to be really listening. The staff member who brought our food to the table was a bit relaxed and not very talkative or happy. The mozzarella, tomato and pesto ciabatta was cooked as I'd asked and served with a basic salad and kettle chips as was my friends tuna melt. However, I did think the ciabattas lacked filling and it was more like just eating toasted bread and not much else. They were quite expensive I thought, more like London prices - 2 ciabattas, one flat white coffee and one green tea came to just under £20. The green tea was good quality though and was served in a small teapot so enough for 2 cups. The staff member who cleared the table remained...
Read moreI've been visiting Esquires Hitchin since it's takeover from the lovely Chia and they do good coffee served by friendly staff who are very welcoming to a hungry thirsty cyclist looking for mid-ride coffee and cake. Unfortunately they have stopped selling delicious flapjacks and granola bars that are both dairy free and very low or gluten free (they did have a cake that's GF-only and another that's Vegan-only). Apparently this is because they have stopped been supplied because they don't sell enough. This is a shame because I'll just be having the coffee for now and won't be able to tuck into a lovely cake as well. I'm sure there are many other people with similar food intolerances/allergies who are feeling equally sad and disenfranchised. I hope this feedback gets to "management" as, after all, making flapjacks and granola bars that are both VLG/GF and dairy free isn't exactly...
Read moreVery medicore food, we ordered breakfast and received overcooked bacon, raw tomatoes, microscopic butter for two larhe sourdough slices, beans optional, hot latè coffee served in what looked like a whiskey glass, had to ask to provide me with a proper mug I can handle with hot drink in it. Upon leaving, a "default" tip of 20% (!!!) added on top of my bill, so the till showed £40.00 for breakfast but payment terminal was set to £48.00 and when I tapped, it was too late. I requested a refund, the tip is something that SHOULD NOT BE SET AUTOMATICALLY on the screen, the customer should be asked how much (if anything) they want to add. Overpriced place, not worth the prices. Go to Four Leaf Clover nearby and you'll pay half the price whilst getting proper quality food. We don't recommend Esquires. ...
