Grey Seal Coffee — Restaurant in North Norfolk

I recently visited Grey Seal Coffee, an independent coffee shop that roasts its own beans. As a coffee enthusiast who loves to try new roasters, I was excited to check it out.

The shop was busy on the Saturday I visited, as there was some sort of festival happening in the area. I had to wait about 10 minutes for my coffee after placing my order. There was no apology for the wait, nor was there any acknowledgment of my presence while I waited.

The coffee itself was not bad, but I was a little disappointed with the flavour and texture. It lacked the depth and uniqueness that I'm used to from specialty coffee shops. The biggest problem was the thin milk, which took away from the smoothness of the drink and made it taste weak. It's possible that the espresso blend used by the shop just wasn't my taste.

I did go back for a second coffee the following day. This time, my drink was served to me within minutes :-) The flavour and texture of the milk remained the same, so it's possible that this is just how the shop serves its coffee. There's nothing wrong with that, it's just not my preference. I still picked up a bag of the single-origin beans to take home and enjoy there.

We had spotted this place early in the week and it looked lovely and I couldn’t wait to try their coffee. How disappointed was I? Such a shame but the coffee was just awful. The shop itself is nice enough and the staff were polite and helpful but ultimately it’s a coffee shop and if you can’t get the coffee right then it’s just not enough to make it a viable business for very long. There are plenty of other tea shops, cafes and coffee shops in Sheringham and I tried a few others with much better results.

I noticed they were promoting a chance to compare their coffee versus the others on a special night. Sadly I couldn’t attend that as we were on holiday and not around that day but I’d be interested to know the results.

It may be, just may be, that the young staff member who made my coffee hadn’t been trained properly and that other people get a decent coffee but judging by other recent reviews on here I don’t think that’s acceptable either. This place needs to step up to the plate if...

Not good at all I am afraid. I had high hopes for this place. Unfortunately I was totally let down. No cold brew even though advertised!! Then I ordered oat milk iced latte which was served in a mug with a few ice cubes flowing in it and oat milk which had gone bad. It was sour and fizzy which is mad oat milk. Not happy.
