The Murphy — Restaurant in North Tyneside

I visited here with my husband for lunch after a good previous experience. We were greeted by a friendly man at the door who made sure we used the correct entrance, track and trace, washed our hands and wore our masks before we were shown in for a table. We were immediately given 5 star service being asked if we'd like a drink? Given disposable menus and wrapped cutlery. We chose macaroni cheese without the meat as we are both vegeterian. Aubergine Indian biryani, fresh crab with salad and two sides of sweet potato fries. There was enough food to feed a family when it arrived the portion sizes were plentiful not like other places who only do nibble size portions. All the food was served by the kitchen staff themselves so if there was anything that wasn't right you could say immediately. However everything was perfect!! It was served piping hot, all fresh, good size portions, extremely tasty, excellent quality. We had a check back by a female member of staff and asked if we'd like another drink? We never had to ask once for anything throughout our visit even though all staff were extremely busy doing work related tasks. The atmosphere was good with friendly clientele in a warm and welcoming establishment. The prices were reasonable and there was an advert for an offer on Wednesday evenings which we will definitely return for. We held a baby shower at The Murphy and it was amazing - from making the original booking, to the day itself, the service was so smooth and we were so grateful for all of the attention to detail! The manager was so attentive when helping us make food choices that would suit the whole party - he even helped us design personalised cocktails and mocktails! Communication throughout the whole process was brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble - we asked if we could rearrange some furniture and the staff did it without a problem. On the day itself, the service was excellent and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. There was so much food - amazing value for money! And everyone commented on how delicious it was. Love the new decor - a really modern, bright room which complimented our decorations perfectly!! Would totally recommend having your function...

I attended a wedding here at the weekend. They were very poorly organised. There were not enough seats for all the guests to sit for a meal. My kids and I were plonked away from the rest of the wedding party on a lone table. This was moved to join to rest of the party after I had to request.

The father of the bride was trying to give his speech whilst the staff (I assume in the kitchen /through an open doorway) kept talking and laughing at such a volume that guests were unable to hear the speeches. Staff were politely asked to lower the volume, but they didn’t do so.

The catering was extremely poor. Many of the guests went without food as The Tap House had drastically under catered for the event, even though they were given the correct number of attendees.

On a plus side, the bar staff were very friendly and helpful.
