Booked a table for 2 on a Saturday evening and wasn’t disappointed. A small restaurant tucked away but well worth finding. Classy decor, friendly and professional staff, great food and good value. Was met by Jorge who was friendly and made some food recommendations. They have a wide range of Portuguese speciality dishes as you would expect. Lots of fresh fish available. We shared a bottle of Portuguese pink sparkling wine at £36 a bottle. As good as any other pink fizz I’ve drunk. Skipped a starter but was given olives as an aperitif (nice touch). We shared 2 skewers, one fish one meat. The prawns were excellent but the squid was outstanding. The steak tender and cooked to perfection but the chorizo was my favourite. The skewers came with a home made sauce which had just enough kick to it. I had a glass of red to go with the meat which was full bodied and reasonably priced at about £6. Skewers came with fries and we shared a side salad and a side of vegetables. We decided to share a cheese board with a glass of Port. As expected the Port was smooth and tasted great. The cheeses were Portuguese and although good I prefer British cheese, that said the home made marmalade to accompany it was delicious. Total cost £120 which included a bottle of fizz, glass of red, 2 mains, 2 sides, cheese board, 2 large glasses of Port and 10% service charge. Good value and worth it. All Covid rules adhered to, no...
Read moreAfter vowing never to eat in motorway services again, we booked this meal as a stop off on our way home from the Norfolk Coast. This is exactly the reason why. The food was all absolutely delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. It's a little place with a relaxed atmosphere. Our children (6 and 8) were the only children in there but I'd recommend it for kids. The staff were lovely with them and they loved the food. They picked the prawns as their favourite tapas choice but ate a bit of everything we chose. The pork ribs and cured meats and beef croquettes were all memorable too but it was all delicious! Also.....the desserts were amazing! We are two sweet tooths and 2 not so much. We had the chocolate mousse (best chocolate mousse ever!), the custard tart (polished off by my son who had originally declared he was full) and the almond tart with lavender ice cream. I'm one of the sweet tooths. The almond tart was not overly sweet and made me feel like a grown-up as a result. It reminded me a little of peanut brittle, but won't break you teeth. And my husband (who had a double expresso instead of dessert) happily mineswept whatever he was allowed. We basked in the glory of our excellent decision for the following 3...
Read moreA conveniently located place with an atmospheric interior. The food, unfortunately, is hit or miss, mostly the latter. We were there for dinner, both steak and tiger prawns were done competently enough. But appetizers were underwhelming--short on seasoning and lukewarm, like they were barely reheated (mushrooms are definitely not made freshly to order). Side dishes could really benefit from the chef's attention, the flavors are bland and off-balance, the ingredients not fresh. Chimichurri--which comes at extra cost in a small dish the size of a thimble--is just mush of what was probably parsley in a previous life, floating in flavorless generic-brand olive oil. The piri-piri one is inedible, just some mayo with a squirt of sriracha. Overall, a pleasant enough evening thanks to front of house, but at this price point I expected much more from the kitchen. Two stars, and both go to the waiters. Will not be back and predict Jorge's will be out of business within 6 months if they don't stop treating their customers like Neanderthals who can't tell good...
