One of the Worst Customer Service Experiences – Tipu Sultan
I had a very disappointing experience with Tipu Sultan restaurant. We placed an order, and one of the items was missing upon delivery. What made the situation worse was that the restaurant didn’t even have the courtesy to call and inform us in advance nor did they let the delivery driver know that item is missing and tell customer to call back. Had they done so, we could have replaced the item in time and avoided unnecessary delay and frustration.
Even the Uber Eats delivery driver expressed his annoyance with the restaurant’s behavior, which says a lot.
When I called the restaurant to inquire, they casually informed me that they had run out of the item and claimed they had tried to call us—which never happened. The person on the call offered three poor options:
Request a refund – which would mean reordering from another place, wasting both time and money.
Place another Uber Eats order – where they'd include a complimentary item. But why should I pay again for their mistake and pay extra unwanted item including delivery fee?
Mention it on a future order – and they’d add a complimentary item then. Again, this is assuming we’d even want to order again after such poor treatment.
None of these options actually resolved the issue. Instead of making it right and sending a quick replacement at their cost, they kept repeating “sorry” without offering a fair solution. I was already irritated, but what really crossed the line was when the staff member (Moussin) hung up the call on me. When I called back, he accused me of hanging up and not being “willing to listen.” Extremely rude and unprofessional.
In short, I was expected to accept the inconvenience, waste my time and money, and adjust for their mistake. That is simply unacceptable. A restaurant that cannot handle a basic customer service issue properly does not deserve repeat business.
Avoid Tipu Sultan if you value your time, money, and basic respect...
Read moreTo anyone considering a venue hire or planning to eat here, I strongly suggest you read this review before doing so.
We met the manager mohsin a few weeks back and hired a room upstairs for a nikkah ceremony on a date and time specified due to availability we witnessed within their own booking records. We booked promptly and we were promised exclusive use of the upstairs room to be followed by dinner thereafter downstairs. A deposit was paid directly to Mohsin and my personal contact details were left including my email and phone number.
Since then we had no further communication and we were making preparations for the date, by chance we called the restaurant a few days before to confirm some small details, only to find out that he had booked somebody else without informing us. When confronted he lied saying that “he had been ringing me all week”. I asked him to read out the phone number I gave him which he confirmed was the correct one yet I had no missed calls, voicemails or emails from him throughout the week. He then lied again saying he told me that “if somebody else booked that date after we did, then he would give it to them. We had no such conversation and that defeats the purpose of a booking entirely. To act like this and give away our booking at the last minute with zero communication shows clear unprofessionalism and there are similar instances which have been mentioned in other reviews. This is a clear trend in how they operate.
I advise anyone considering hiring this venue to stay well clear unless you want to be lied to, have your deposit withheld, be spoken to rudely and have your booking cancelled at the last minute with zero communication or care. With incompetence and rudeness to this degree I can only imagine how they handle the food they...
Read moreTop class. Desi without the risk of disaster. While not quite as good as my favourite Formica-top in Huston Green, this was up there with the best and with less oil and digestive risk.
Northern south-Asian -Punjabi/Gujerati is my favourite requiring great grill skills and a way with layering deep spiced sauces against a chilli burn and this is all done very well.
For a take out order, the staff were great when they didn’t need to be for us riff-raff - Diana in particular being proficient and kind; the deliveroo driver was offered a seat. Classy. Staff are clearly treated well to have this attitude when not actually required.
Nothing wrong; everything right ( you can tell a kitchen by its roti alone) and good value; twelve large helpings for £122 tells its own story.
Starter selection was perfect -and with something new; a grilled marinated ‘broccoli that turned out to be chicken. The lamb haldi was great, chicken haldi, all the little goujons beautifully prepared. Mixed veg a little soft for my tastes but perfectly sauced.
The spicing guide matched my palate but for those sensitive to the chilli, there are the kormas and butter chicken, both of which were sound, if uninteresting to the chilliesta.
Five stars is a rare one for me (Mayfair Chinese my last) but here well deserved.
Will go for a sit down next time because it looks gorgeous, will just dress up a bit from this time (shorts); Tipu Sultan is worth it.
While you might pay half that in the Green, and that might be more Desi offerings, Tipu Sultan wins my future custom by doing it right and doing...
